Well... we will welcome you with open arms. At least you're not a Texan or Californian. I don't think I would feel comfortable enough anywhere to leave my home unlocked... that boy ain't right.

I have been to New Mexico and not once while there did I feel in danger. I wouldn't pay too much attention to these findings. I looked on their places to retire to and found Winston-Salem, North Carolina as one of the choices. That would not be the last place in North Carolina I would want to live, but it certainly would not be the first. I doubt the people writing these articles have ever been to the places they are reporting about. Statistics don't tell everything.

True, but the same thing could be said for Detroit or New Orleans, I even went walking around downtown with just my little sister at night and never for a second felt in any danger, so while I do believe the stats in New Orleans It dosent make it a war zone like the stats and people make it out to be.

and anyways when they do the rankings they take a report from the state and combine all violent crime so either the people doing the rankings are lying or the state is, either that or it is almost accurate.

Of course there are cities and towns all accross the country like this but there are so many towns that dont have hardly any crime at all and states with 5 times the amount of towns that we have. Its all a population factor.
This is true

That's something i've never been able to figure out also ??? Maybe it goes back to the Mexican/American War as they blame Texas for starting it or whatever but that has always puzzled me.

Last i checked those in Texas are Americans just like those of us in New Mexico.

Texans have tried to take over the Red River/Angel Fire/Taos areas (especially in the winter) as it's the closest place for them to come to ski. They would show up and not have a clue how to drive in snow (or ski) and were just a bit obnoxious. Anyway.....those were my family's thoughts about Texans from 40 years ago even!

lets take 2007 for example

New Mexico(1.9 million)--162 murders
Alabama(4.6 million)-412 murders
Washington(6.4 million)173 murders

look at the difference between WA and NM and the population/murders

New Mexico as a state(2007) had more murders than Wyoming,Vermont,Utah,South Dakota,New Hampshire,North Dakota and Montana combined.

NEW MEXICO(1.9mil)--162 muders(these are those really big tires right)
Iowa-(2.9mil)--37 murders
Kansas(2.7mil)--107 murders
Connecticut(3.5mil)--106 murders
Oregon(3.7mil)--73 murders
These stats are what law enforcement doesn't like about the ranking. There are lies, Damn lies, and statistics.
Example--- Dallas, TX. Population 1.2 million, murders in 2008- 170
So Dallas (that does not include Ft. Worth, or any other surrounding cities) by itself beats the whole state of NM. Have not even look at other cities the size of NM, Bet it would be more of the same for the most part.

NM has a dismal record when it comes to punishment of violent crime. The average length of jail time for a convicted murderer in NM is five years . That is obscene. Same goes for DUI convictions. There are horrible stories of people convicted of multiple DUI's.

NM prides itself on being a tolerant state, but we shouldn't be tolerant of repeat offenders of violent crime.

Good thing your from Colorado Springs! Your the one who sounding a bit obnoxious. Relying on what your family said about Texans 40 years ago. Sounds a lot like racism if you where talking about any other group of people!!!
