I buy a couple of specialty items and some DVDs on line through Amazon. I would use Craigslist as a catalog and buy face to face after inspecting the goods.

I buy and sell off the internet. Live where I have to drive 2 plus hours to any decent stores (don't mind that all) so other than groceries and feed for the animals, I am pretty much on line person. Where I would love to live in New Mexico (Chama area) I know I would probably have to buy everything on line (assuming I can even have on lline in that area).

Default MY Ebay

just for giggles, I thought I'd check and see ebay's earnings results, and, they're earnings are down,
globeandmail.com: EBay earnings hit by recession (http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20090121.webay0121/BNStory/Technology/home - broken link)
I used to but alot of stuff off of ebay, but have not lately, things seem to be priced higher, and ship charges seem to be becoming exorbitant lately. looks like a 2 pound package costs $9.99 to get it to T or C. I won't shop or buy from sellers who charge more than they should for shipping. oh, I know, people always claim that it's their time and effort going into the sale of the item, and this is part of the reason for jacked up ship charges. sometimes I'll compare prices of ebay items and amazon too, and occasionally shop at amazon.
driving long distances to get a better deal? yes, we do. member of sams club in las cruces, and we hit that place about once a month, or once every two months. since sams sells gasoline too, we fill 'er up, sams usually has the lower priced gasoline, but not always, you gotta shop around. since we have a 5.2 cu.ft. freezer, when we shop at sams, we'll stock up on cheeses, cold cuts, sausages, chicken parts, burger patties, and breakfast items. sams is a bit lower on pet items too. sometimes you can find a 50# bag of dog food for about 16-18 bucks. an individual membership costs 40 bucks plus tax, but it pays for itself after the 2nd. or 3rd. visit if you're a penny pincher and stocker-upper type of shopper. you have to watch them though, sams doesn't necessarily have the lowest price possible on evey item, you have to shop around and compare.
and, more online shopping? yes, we buy my wife's clothing at lane bryant or woman within, because it is difficult to find plus sized ladies apparel in this small city.

Just a word of warning to all of you on line shoppers. I include myself in this group since I do quite a bit of on line shopping.

This past week i received notification from Citibank that my Visa account had been frozen and they were issuing me a new card. The reason is that one of the online merchants i purchased from was hacked into and all credit card info stolen. So Citibank froze all accounts related to that merchant.

Everything is Ok now, but I am now purchasing online using one card and separately using another card to purchase from local merchants etc. This way my online merchants are separate from my other local purchases like gas, groceries, drugs, etc.

Not sure how much this will help, but I want to hopefully have one card active at all times.

Jim

Do you know who the merchant was? did they tell you?
hopefully it wasn't one that we use.
I occasionally pay w/credit card through an online service, and once in a while I receive phish emails. I usually report them to the service I use.

Sorry, they did not tell me who the merchant was in this case. Only comment I can make is that it happened right after I bought from petfood.com, but of course that doesn't really mean they were the problem.
