Have you contacted the school district? They usually have a pretty good turnover of teachers here. Also, you could work at many districts within easy driving distance, including Texas (ie..Bovina, Farwell, etc....)

I am applying for the Clovis district for now and then I will go from there. Thank you for the info about other districts nearby.

Housing is tight below $175K in both towns. Rents are 20% higher in Clovis than in Portales, and neighborhoods are more dangerous.

DORA is one of the best school districts in the entire region. Over 200 kids at the high school and only 135 people in the whole town. Dora Consolidated Schools - Homepage

clovis way better
Im going to ENMU right now as a full time student i do play football and there is absolutely nothing to do here in portales!!! I just joined this city_data thing (TO LET YOU GUYS KNOW) and have to say that all of us students wish this school was in Clovis..Me and some of the guys travel to Clovis everyday for lunch just for something decent ..we go to the mall there every now and than.. when we arrive in clovis it feels somewhat better.!.(1).they have way way way more "traffic" which makes you feel as if in a bustling city (2) they have many more stores to choose from when shopping..
Alot of these guys from Texas hate portales and sometimes quit school/football period because of it...4 out 9 coaches live in clovis and almost all the professors reside in Clovis..
..WISH WE WERE IN cLOVIS..!!

sup everyone im living in fort walton beach right now. im headed over to clovis in about a month and a half. everything ive heard has been horrible. im a single guy, ill be 21 in a few months and im hoping theres gonna be some stuff to do (aka partying, drinking) here theres all kinds of clubs, theres the beach, theres a million bars, and panama city isnt far.... i think its gonna be a big time culture shock...
during football season we had a tradition of going to either buffalo wild wings or hooters every sunday... from what i hear, neither of those restaurants can be found for miles and miles.... is that right?
i know ill have no choice but to become more in tune with the outdoors.
i put on senior airman in december so i will more than likely have to live in the dorms for a few months...
any advice on how i can make the most of this and meet some new people?

Definitely find a hobby besides partying. Maybe save up (all that tax-fee and combat pay on deployments) and buy a used motorcycle and join a riding club.
Portales (near Clovis) has a college so I am sure there are college bars to go hang out at, if you want. That scene is not all bad - I met my husband at a college bar in ABQ when he was at Kirtland - but I would not suggest making it your life.
Besides riding a lot (there is a ton of open road in ENM) I can't suggest anything else as we have never been to Cannon, but I am sure someone else can.

Skate park
There is also a skate park, my husband is a TSgt and he skates and rides BMX in FWB at the BMX Track. There is also an ATV/ motorcross place to ride near Clovis I've been told. We will be fishing and travelling to nearby places when we can. I'd say if you making AF a career that you'd be wise to get your college classes done while you are there, you could possibly even finish and become an O if you wanted to! Good luck!

Partying and drinking? Do you have any other hobbies? I mean, partying and drinking isn't really "stuff to do". If partying and drinking is your scene--good luck. How about you take up other hobbies I.E working out. You'll probably be living in the dorms for a long while =/ It's nothing like Hurlburt or Eglin. We are heading over to Cannon in a couple of weeks. I guess you can throw "dorm parties" since you're into partying and drinking!
and I don't know if it's a rumor or not--but apparently there is a 3 drink limit at the Chilis and Applebees?
