How 'bout that.
Looking forward to seeing this movie. Carrizozo was my dad's hometown--born there and lived there during the 1930s and '40s. Came up hard and poor, left home when he was 13, hitchhiked and rode trains from there to a brother's house in Oregon where he stayed until he graduated high school. My last relative in Carrizozo died in the early '90s, so no one there now, but a cemetery full of relatives!
My dad's still alive and well, I've told him of the websites with pics of this movie. He remembers well most of the street scenes (of course he went back periodically over the years to see his mother and sisters) and has some interesting (to me) stories of the town from back then.
My French Friends this evening on the French television ( France2 ) Denzel Washington wil be at the end of the News 8pm- this is the link : http://jt.france2.fr/20h/
Hey, that looks pretty interesting! A post-apocalyptic world, with Denzel being a super-ninja "good" guy and Gary Oldman as his nemesis, works for me. Just hope it doesn't devolve into utter silliness... like too many movies these days.
Seems odd to me that they showed the identity of "the book" in the trailer. Wouldn't it have been better to keep this a secret... at least until the end? And also have it be something other than the bible... I mean, there are more bibles in the world than any other book, and it's utterly impossible that they all would have been destroyed. I can guaranty you that a bunch of people would be hanging onto those if something like that happened.
Yeah ruff, I hope it doesn't devolve in utter silliness too. I thought the trailer looked interesting but IMO Denzel is maybe a tad too much of a bad*****. Kind of like Neo from the Matrix, but on steroids.
I'm bumping this thread up again because it's time for the release/showing of the film in theaters around the USA - Jan. 15, 2010.
BOOK OF ELI was filmed in the Lincoln County, NM town of Carrizozo, which also happens to be the county seat of government.
It will be interesting to see how it plays against the current rage movie, AVATAR, which is being rated as possibly the all-time box office winner.
