Default Cathys Place

In My Opinion after hearing Cathy talk about the Hot weather in Alamogordo which i agree it gets hot there year round in my opinion but summers are hot and unbearable for me anyplace south of the center or N.M. >>>>> Cathys place would be somewhere in the center of N.M. where she can drive a half hour or an hour to her swimming pool or to her Ski area and that would be the center of N.M. close to Albuquerque and Santa Fe and in an Area where the Temps rarely get to 100 in the Summmer but can get in the 40s at night and in the winter they get plenty of Snow and Wind and way below zero temps but the Sun manages to come out and warm up the area. If i was Cathy i would forget Northern N.M. because of the Cold Weather and Traffic and a few other reasons. KID TIP... Snow is nice but to Drive in Icy weather for a week or two can get Dangerous for yourself and others. >>>>>> My favorite area to Explore is the East Mountain Area where i use to spend lots of time hiking the Mountains with some of the men that blazed the trails for the forest service back in the 60s and all the Little towns all over and the wonderful people everywhere you go and lots to do in the summer and activities to attend. el pintada kid

Farmington does not get a lot of ice, from what I have seen, over the last 3-4 years of looking at its weather. It's 80 miles from Farmington to Durango Mountain Resort....and 125 miles to Wolf Creek. Both areas are in excellent shape right now, especially Wolf Creek with over 100-inch midmountain base right now, Durango at a respectable 64 inches. Both with packed powder and machine-groomed, just really good.

Sandia Ski area is open, but I understand that the conditions are not that great...and they don't always open every season. Santa Fe has been off and on.

Albuquerque is not particularly cold, and does not have a lot of snow. Farmington has generally been consistently colder than ABQ all winter long...and 15-20 degrees cooler than Alamo this so-called winter. It doesn't get a lot of snow, but it has snowed there 3-4 times this winter (correct me if I'm wrong). ABQ is also a lot bigger than I wanted, so I didn't really consider it, though I do like the city.

The so-called center is not convenient to either swimming OR skiing, not like Farmington and Aztec are. For that matter, it's not convenient to much of anything....you have to drive and drive.

I might even consider Durango, as expensive as it is. It has great skiing and swimming both!!

As far as getting out in it every day....being retired...I don't have to go if the weather is bad! You can stock up ahead of it, and just stay in if the roads are icy.

On the other hand, I'm heading for Texas in April, meeting my family in the Davis Mountains/Big Bend area. It's about 300 miles....and I couldn't do that if I lived way north.

So, there are compensating factors. Farmington does get hot in the summer, but not as hot as Alamo does.

Cathy,
You need more than one house. One for summer and one for winter.

Probably about the time the sabretooth tiger and woolly mammoth went extinct. You haven't lived till you have a big cat treed by a baying pack of hounds. There are several outfitters around that will run dogs....particularly if there is an abundance of cats and they are making incursions on the lamb crop.
