Another thing that made me angry was that we were upset and asked if we could come back in a few days to pay the bill and the answer was that we had to pay now.
Anyway Drac and Tetto and anyone else reading this, if you don't know already how your pet will be treated or how you will be treated, you need to go in and talk to your vet about it now and it will give you peace of mind if and when you ever have to put your pet to sleep.
I've talked to a couple of vets already in Alamogordo and told them what I wanted and expected from them.
One of them agreed that this was not the way for this other office to have handled the situation and the other one seemed to not care that what I was saying was important.
Guess which one I picked?
I stupidly thought that all vets and there staffs were nice, caring and sensitive people that love animals. I found out differently last week.
The vet office in High Rolls is a horrible, horrible place.

We are lucky enough to have a very caring country vet here is southeastern CT. It's very apparent he loves his job and animals as well. When we put our cat down last year, the staff and vet couldn't have been more caring. They made us feel comfortable about what we had to do and followed up a few days later with a beautiful card mailed to our home. Nice people.

I only hope TorC has adequate to good vet care. I have reservations about vets in general and tend to avoid them these days unless unavoidable.
Today is the first day in nearly a year where I can use my right hand a bit with the mouse and index finger to type! What an ordeal a cat bite has been! I'll never have full use of my right hand again but I'll rehab it to the limit of what's possible. Learning to be ambidextrous has been an asset. My left hand can now write nearly as well as my right, although more slowly, and my left mitt does most of the typing now. Be afraid...be very afraid of deep cat bites folks!!! If a cat can do this to me, a life-time fitness/weightlifting nut, then anyone can be grievously injured as well!

Reason: Mousing with my Right Mitt again feels GOOD!!!

Glad you have a good vet Tetto.
Drac, since highdesertmutz has a dog, he might be able to suggest a good vet but I would still check them out to see how they react in putting a pet to sleep.
Happy to hear your hand is healing well.

Still can't draw it into a fist yet because it is so damn tight. Able to use the thumb and forefinger and little finger pretty well. The middle and ring fingers are still quite rigid. Physical therapy officially starts Monday...but I'm fast tracking it already! Working it just to the threshold of pain. Pulled out another stitch the nurse missed and I see that another is still in the scar. Five inches of pain. Could be worse.
My second big white cat, Two-point-oh, is adopting many of Fazoo's old mannerisms and habits: kinda eerie. He even detached the surge suppressor as Faz did on the night of his demise!!! Really weird. Hangs around me a lot now, just as Faz used to. De ja' Vu or what?! The difference is in his play-fullness with the big bully pit. They seem to enjoy romps together...whereas Fazoo was a true King of his realm and would attack the dog fiercely. Imagine, if you will, a large, white, leonine looking house cat that would leap onto the huge face of a muscled Bully Pit Bull dog with reckless abandon -all claws and teeth- completely startling the dog and dismaying me! Fazoo was one of a kind all right...I really miss him...despite what he, and the other cat, did to my hand.

We lost our beautiful soul of a vet. this last year. She was absolutely the best, and most caring vet I have ever seen. She had her office next to their house, and her husband was her assistant. She opened at 11:00 am and closed at 9:00pm so that it made it more covenant for working folks and emergency when all the other vets where closed. She actually gave our pets physicals and blood test, not just shots. She had the equipment to run blood and fecal test right in her office. I have never seen a vet as caring about a pet. We lost a American Husky due to a rare liver decease, She did all she could to save her, including consulting with TX A&M. When we adopted our new pups and carried the down for a check the first time you would have thought your where bringing her new grandchildren home for a visit. She took care of these girls for the last four years and always you new she genuinely cared for them.
She lost her fight with cancer this last December And we will miss her very much as a great person and a great veterinarian.
All our pets that have passed now are in wonderful hands.
God Bless You Dr. R.!!!

songinthewind7: I am sorry to hear about the callous behavior of the High Rolls vet. I am fortunate to have a very caring vet here in Ft Worth. To those who love their animals, a vet who cares is about as important as anything I can think of. The people at Southside Veterinary Clinic are the best!
I have two 14-year-old cats who are brothers, and I'm not looking forward to the horrible days when I will have to say goodbye to them.

So, so sorry to hear of your loss Song. I know how hard it is and I am sitting here crying as I read these stories and remember Bear, our 12 year Lab mix we lost this past October. At least he made it from Seattle to our new home here in NM and was able to 'chase away' the balloons that flew over our house during the Fiesta. I sent our vet (Issaquah Vet Hospital in WA) a note that we had lost Bear and I got back the sweetest card from her and her staff with a photo of Bear they had taken sometime while he was 'visiting' her. She is an amazing vet and I am just sorry our new babies (yep, we just adopted two little girls, Hannah & Maggie - 9 week old lab mixes) will not get to meet her.
The vet that helped us with Bear, Dr Melloy at El Rincon here in Bernalillo, was very caring too, especially since he had only met Bear one time. It was like he had known him forever. Very caring - I hope it remains that way for our new girls.
Our other Lab mix that we lost 3 years ago, had to go to an emergency vet clinic late at night - that clinic there was also amazing. Very caring and concerned for Ben's well-being. And they were like you can pay us when you get better... so unconcerned about that - more concerned about us and our loss.
I truly believe that our pets/friends will be waiting for us on the other side anything else is just too sad to think about.
