Default Over 2,500 jobs in boomtown Hobbs

I read in the Las Cruces sun news business section that Silver city is having a job fair to relocate displaced mine workers to Hobbs where over 2,500 jobs await. That little town must really be booming, i know there is a lot of construction going on there..lets see if Hobbs passes Clovis and Alamogordo making it the 7th biggest city in NM. It may even leave Roswell in the dust

I know the oil industry is booming out there along with the new nuclear facility under construction in Eunice. Anyway good for Hobbs as i always pull for Hobbs, Clovis and Carlsbad to grow out in eastern nm.

With oil prices lower now, the oil industry isn't booming any longer. Companies are cutting back spending which will trickle down to the oilfield supply and service industry soon. Until the economy turns around, I wouldn't put all my marbles in the oilfield.

I work in the oil and gas business, and budgets are being slashed because revenues are down. Cities who count on the oil industry for growth need to diversify when the oil industry is booming so that they don't fall flat during bust times.

The oil and gas business (from one who grew up with it) has always been a cycle of boom-bust, and I don't see that changing.

I heard people whining about the high cost of natural gas and gasoline, "Oh, prices will never go back down."

I kept telling them, "Yes, they will. There will be another bust cycle."

They didn't believe me. I'm just glad I got out of Midland, TX, when I did, and got a good price for my house there.

The bust cycle will affect Hobbs just as it does Midland, if not worse. It always does.

I'm hoping that it will affect housing prices in Farmington, which is also dependent on the industry.

They have been drilling like crazy for the last ten years, so there are still lots of producing wells that need maintenance, and production that needs to be processed. As they quit drilling wells, production of existing wells will slowly drop off and labor demand will dercrease. It's a timing issue.

I read in the ABQ Journal that housing and apartment construction was booming there and also in eunice for all the new oil field and nuclear workers over the last several years in the area.
