Oh dear. We have winds up to 60 MPH. Hard to open the gate and everything dries out and fire is a big concern. No bad hair days, because I don't care. Dust on the window sills and windmile has his tail broken. Big winds and big concerns.

I have a winter place in Deming, last winter we had a couple of the most memorable dust storms in my life. We're east of town and when the storm hit I decided it would be interesting to drive into town to see how bad it really was to drive around. I live in northern mn and have driven in many blizzards and they are nothing compared to the driving conditions we encountered that day. The problem is all of the agriculture around there, when you drive by a farm field the dust coming off of it creates 0 visibility. I mean when you look out your windshield all you see is DUST! You just have to keep rolling and hope nobody is stopped in front of you. Take my advice and stay put when the dust storms start.
You can get wind history charts on Weatherunderground.com. Just search Deming weather and click on weather history. It only goes back several months though. Click on the weekly view tab, the charts are interesting.

I guess that is the downside of being directly downwind of White Sands. I'm a little farther in Ruidoso, and we just get hazy skies.
Sustained winds of > 40 mph all day today... hopefully it will subside soon.
