Default Carlsbad resident seeking Deaf Community

I'm severely hard of hearing and the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community here is... either nonexistant or very underground. I am in dire need to learn ASL and finally learn how to deal with people without them getting frustrated at me or me getting frustrated at them because I can't understand them. Albuquerque seems like the place to go from what I've searched on the net but I was wondering if there might be something closer to Carlsbad. The main NMSU branch has Sign Language courses, but I don't know much about what would be available outside the campus. Are there any places I'm missing or any advice my fellow New Mexicans can give me on this?

Have you tried looking into what El Paso or Lubbock, Texas has to offer? I just did a quick search. It looks like El Paso Community College might have something. You could write them and ask. I also found something called "Lubbock Community Services for the Deaf". Here is their web page. Lubbock Community Services for the Deaf

Good Luck!

The New Mexico School for the Deaf is in Santa Fe and there is a large deaf population. I worked with a deaf man when I worked for the state and the state paid for an instructor from the school to come and teach us to sign.
