That's a song? The name, for me anyway, came from a farm we were fixin' to buy around here that had several rambling roses on the property. Turns out they were well fed from the raw sewage running from under the house, so we passed
Without being too graphic, i've been with some newbies when they see their first BAD pickup. Be it emaciated, or injured or both- and it's been really hard for some of them. One girl, who became a life long friend afterwards was so very upset over what she'd seen with me that she drove from my house to Dayton, OH and straight back in the middle of the night without stopping for more than fueling. (about a 12 hour trip, with construction work) Others can't get past what they've seen and cannot go on more runs, some get physically ill. Others make it through and go on to join in regular runs.
Not something recommended for everyone, that's for sure.

Since we came back, we sorta keep our eye on the horse market there. It's better than here, thank goodness. We have a VERY well bred, very well trained, massively built foundation bred TWH mare for sale. Since we've had her, she's done trails, shown plantation, flat shod, leadline, halter, trail obstacle- you name it. We started her at 2500 back in the summer and have dropped her to 500, NOONE has come to see her and we've only gotten a handful of calls. She's one of the few left to leave the farm before we move.

Dang. Wish I had a place here, I'd say bring her out for me.
Unfortunately, people all over are just dumping horses. I was talking to a lady one day who was telling me that at the auctions, people will just put their horses they can no longer afford into empty trailers in the parking lot. Its so sad. Really wish I had the place right now. I won't board as I don't want any one taking care of my horses but me.

People are dumping horses? Hmm....does anyone know if horses grill up good, and if so, what kind of sauce would go good with them, maybe that Arby's horsey sauce?

Vine! the song Bad Boy, bad boy, comes to mind right bout now! BBQ sauce! Shameful! spanks are given in "the rear" here
(yeah I know yer just pullin' us horse lovers legs just so's yer not mis-understood or cause or get hit by a manure tossin' exhibition here LOL ) (lookin' out for ya )
Vinegaroon, you'll hafta hitch a ride on a boat or plane to France or Iceland, I hear they still serve, horse meat But you hafta bring yer own sauce Question is will ya make it through customs with the sauce? LOL
Anyways, Alison! OHMYGOSH! One of Ramblin' TWH's! He sounds awesome. Isn't there anyway, anyhow, you could consider till she gets moved to take him and board him where you can check him everyday?! Then it sounds like you two might live close enough so's you could even board him AT her new place (till your future plan come into being )! A few months?! Or at least get him to NM with Ramblin? (I know, I know, I'm dreamin' here )
Believe me I know how you feel about "boarding". I've btdt many times, and gone way out of the way till I move or get comfortable with a place to board. You would be/are up north there and there's got to be a few decent places.
On the other foot- Ramblin' can't you move him too with ya'll? I've looked and TWH are pretty rare in NM. And are amazing Trail horses and he sounds 'perfect' already Awww shoot, this breaks my heart! Dang it.
There must be a solution decent enough if he doesn't sell before the move Ramblin'. There's got to be a buyer.
I've heard the stories too about all sort of Pets, being dropped off everywhere right now. So I know what ya'll mean It's a sad state of affair right now, for all animals.
Ramblin' where do you have him listed and 'how"? Dreamhorse maybe? Give me some info Ok?! Is he a "jumper" at all? (boy that would be a help here to sell him) AND besides that I might be able to post something about him on the Barn 'board' here Ok?! Let me know! PM me the 'full' details too. A Photo too? All you can. Hands, age, etc. But I know plenty of Trail riders round these parts too.
( I wish a few "breeders" would hold off now for a year or two, cut down on the quantity out there )
Gosh all we need now is, to rangle a few more Hay growers for a move to: New Mexico
I wish it could work out between ya'll that know each other now, oh well, maybe we'll find something else, another way
Tia Dalma, dreamin' on I know, krazee dreams LOL

Gotta be careful, Vinegaroon. For your use only or it's illegal.
If I had the trailer room, I sure would Alison.
We have that dumping problem here- personally know people who've come back to an extra horse in the trailer. Most notably was my friend in West TN whom we spent the night with on our way to NM. Not only was the mare dumped, she was skinny and heavily bred. Here she is with Greg, my husband. She foaled just a few days later, before we'd even left NM to head back to TN.
Yeah, she's that big. Yeah, they're on the porch. See?

Yes Rose- it's a grateful dead tune called "Ramble on Rose"
Oh, I could see how seeing horses being treated so dreadfully can really upset people.
And that is one preggers horse!
You definitely seem involved in the equine scene. I try to follow what goes on policy-wise that effects agriculture & livestock in the US. I have a question, do you feel that the situation of horse-dumping and neglect has gotten worse since the horse-slaughter houses in the US were shut down? Do you feel that it's ultimately helped or hurt more horses in general? Have you heard of an increase of horses being shipped long-distance to slaughter in Canada or Mexico? I'd love to hear what you've been able to garner on that.

She sure is Alison. After she foaled and the baby was weaned, she was adopted by a family for their children.
Heya Tia
It's a she, not a he :-) She's gaited, so nope to jumping, although she shows potential in gaited dressage. She's been on dreamhorse, craigslist, equinehits and I few more i'm sure i've forgotten. Here's a pic of her:
Her pedigree:
Miss Royal Pushover Tennessee Walking Horse
She's 15.3 and weighs about 1150-1200 lbs.
I also have several pics of her on photobucket.
Mina- oh ABSOLUTELY. Cessation of slaughter has been very determental on life for horses everywhere. The number of starvation and neglect cases has skyrocketed, the bottom has fallen out of the horse market as the prices for equine care climbs. I firmly believe anyone who voted for the closure of the plants should have delivered to their manicured lawns, or townhomes or apartments- free of charge- one of the horses they *saved* by the measure. They should have to care for the critter indefinitely with no chance of reimbursement. The decision to close the plants was not at all well thought out. Provisions should have been made for the horses that were left behind. Rescues across the country and are bursting at the seams- some have even had to close their doors. Horses are being loaded into unsuspecting people's trailers, being turned loose in mountainous and residential areas, abandoned at auction houses- you name it.
With the cost of fuel, I just don't think it's profitable for the kill buyers to ship cross country to the non-US plants. I could be wrong, but we're not seeing evidence of increased shipping.

You know Rose, that seems to be the consensus from what I've heard from people who actually own/work with horses on a regular basis. The only people who seem to approve of the plants closing are those who A.don't own horses and B.don't live in a rural area.
Seems to me to be a total disconnect between urban regulation and rural practice.
