Yeah, that treatment once a month on the back of the neck really does the trick.

As a cat lover, I must say that the post about the "cat in his mouth" was quite hard for me to take.

First off, let me give you these: ........ Those are the periods left out of the original post. Second, let me recommend that if you have cats, don't let them outside except under strict supervision, as lifespans for outdoor cats are significantly (~75%) shorter than those for indoor cats. This is in addition to their tracking in fleas and tics, other insects, or diseases. I think perhaps you should also keep your wolf dog in your yard. I guess that is another example of why you should keep your cats indoors.

PK - word of advice - train yourself and your dog. You are responsible for anything and everything the dog does. In this respect a dog is no different than a gun. All dogs can be trained to do what YOU want them to do and what YOU don't want them to do. Please take the time.

I would tend to agree with the statement about shorter lifespans if I didn't have first-hand information otherwise. I'm not a cat person, but my sister had one that she raised from a kitten that hated the indoors. That cat spent 22 years outdoors by choice. This was rural Texas, though, not New Mexico.

I have a flea collar on my old cat, and he's never had fleas.

You can purchase drops to put on the cat that will kill fleas and ticks. Check with a local vet to see what they suggest using and the correct amount to apply. Same thing goes for dogs. Last summer we traveled from Alaska to the lower 48 with our two dogs. We took them to the vet and purchased drops you put behind their neck and on their tail base. We had no problems whatsoever with the dogs having fleas or ticks. Good luck.

The best way to bathe the cat is hold it with the skin behind it's head (the same way the mother cat carries her kittens). However, be quick and be careful because they will swing their back legs up to scratch. Also, when putting the drops on the cat for fleas, etc., or medicine by the mouth, this is the best hold.

There are a few oddball cats that actually like water..but for most it's like the worst type of torture. I second Song's recommendation for Dr.Bronner's or the equivalent. With the peppermint, you get a double whammy because the soap kills the fleas, and peppermint is a natural bug repellent.

One sure-fire way I've found to dispose of fleas if the animal is on your lap and you find one, which I'm sure has happened to everyone at some point, is grab it and get a glass of water and release it at the bottom of the glass. It won't hop away in water.

Default Cats In My Midst

Cats are everywhere in my area and you cant leave the window open or food in your car or it will be gone when you come back except the wrapper. But inside my big Football field size yard it is a Cat Free Zone. The people with lots of cats have cars that smell like Cat Pee all the time and ive seem some people that have cats piled up in the back window of a car trying to stay warm in the winter. Over the years ive taken in all kinds of breeds of dogs and lots of them have lived 15 or up to 20 years. >>>>> I had this beautiful Dingo Wild dog Blue healer years ago that loved to Run and Catch Frisbees and climb Trees and i had one cat who lived up on top of the Roof and all that cat did was cry even tho i would feed him all the time but he was just an all around pest and one day he fell asleep at the edge of the roof and my healer went running and climbed up the wall and grabbed the cat off the edge of the roof and all the others dogs jumped the cat and last i saw that cat he flew up my 6 foot fence and left the neighborhood forever and its been A Cat Free place for over 15 years now with a rare cat making an appearance and regretting it every now and then. p.s. my Wolf dog rarely gets out but when he does lets just call it a Balance of Nature thing hes the best Guard Dog ive ever owned and is Actually very Lovable and he is not Vicious just very Cautious. And hes actually a Good Dad with the Little Jack Russell thats my Dennis the Menace and lives ruts all over my lawn hes like a mini dirt bike that loves to run. el pintada kid
