Family, Friends vs. New Mexico
I've been living in New Mexico for 5 years now and thought that by this time, I'd be feeling comfortable. But that's not the case.
I miss my friends and family from back in California and am thinking about returning so that I can be with them.
Has anyone else been in this position? Would someone be willing to share his/her feelings?
Thanks in advance for any contributions.

I suppose it would all depend on why you left in the first place. Some people intentionally leave home to be away from their families only to miss them again.
If it's career-based, you've spent enough time here to start angling for employment closer to where you're from, and not look like a vagabond.
If it's location based (you hated the place you came from), can only suggest visiting more frequently, and dropping hints you'd like more family and friends to follow you.
Good luck with all that. The good news is you (presumably) picked a good time to not be holding on to real estate in California.

How do you feel uncomfortable ?
Missing family and friends is natural. I moved from Ireland and get the same feelings from time to time but I do call home several times a week and Skype with friends back home.

My family is spread out all over the place. We keep in touch with email and phone calls. I miss them occasionally but that's normal.
In your case, sounds like you need to go back to California. You'll be happier.

I would say if you miss your family and friends to the point it makes you unhappy, then NM is not where you should be.
I miss my family and friends, but not enough to ever move back to Maine.

Pintada Kid Tip
New Mexico is a wonderful State with Wonderful people but i guess if i moved somewhere in this Great State and didnt like it i would look around for a different area in the State to live or rent. Sometimes people can move to an area and they might not be wanted there for whatever reason but exploring New Mexico and finding that right area applies to anyone natives or not. I love the Whole State of New Mexico but the center of New Mexico is my favorite area. el pintada kid

Life's honestly too short to be thinking about the family and friends you could be connecting with but watch out! Five years is enough time to put a shine on a place that you left for good reason.

Sometimes I miss living in a city because that's what I'm used to but then I remember the reasons I wanted to live in the mountains and it turns out to be more pros than cons.
Maybe you should write out the pros and cons and see what happens. It usually works for me but whatever you decide, I wish you the very best.
