Then, on the New Mexico level, there is the legend/story/fictionalized account of the life of Henry McCarty. Who? One of his many aliases was William Bonny, but was best known as Billy The Kid, one of the major figures of the settling of the West.

There are a lot of accounts of his alleged early friendship of Sheriff Pat Garrett, who supposedly killed him a few years after they met. And what kind of activities was he involved in during the Lincoln County Wars of the 1870's? And just HOW was he killed? Or was he killed at all as there are several alleged witnesses who claim to have seen him years, and with a few people, decades, after he supposedly died.

There was another major Western figure one state, er, one territory over by the name of Wyatt Earp that a myth started to develop over time and how that myth reached an epic level after the famed Gunfight at the OK Corral outside Tombstone, Arizona. Through supposed eyewitness accounts the legend built up more over the years about Earp, whose friend Doc Holiday spent a fair amount of time in Las Vegas; New Mexico, that is. In Billy The Kid's case, IMO a similar type of hype developed here as well.

Whether it is nostalgia or whatever, it makes for a good debate. One documentary that I haven't seen in a while that gets shown periodically is "Billy The Kid- Unmasked." I have seen it on the Discovery Channel a couple times, but not recently. Great stuff! Also on New Mexico PBS was a separate one hour special on him detailing his life.

Default Billy The Kid

Ive traveled and explored lots of the Areas that Billy the Kid use to hang around in. He liked to be where there was lots of Trees and water and Mountains to hide in. There are stories that he used to go into the East Mountain Area.>>>> Las Vegas, Puerto De Luna and Anton Chico and Ft Sumner were his favorite Hangouts. Kid Tip.... The Bar where Billy use to Frequent is still up in Puerto De Luna. el pintada kid

What about the Anasazi Indians? Where did they go,how did they die or disappear to,and why are there no skeletal remains?, Only cliff dwellings and a few other things left behind but no other signs of life or death for that matter
