Just a word about bicycling in the Cloudcroft area. It's an entirely different experience for off-road bicycling, if you're into the "mountain biking (ATB)" scene. The old railroad bed that runs between the desert and Cloudcroft is a dedicated "rails to trails" project - ongoing. There is plenty of good off-road riding on the old rail bed, as long as you don't try to cross that trestle!! But even the old trestle has now been given a new life with a government grant of over a $million to restore/preserve it (WHY? I don't know!).

And there are plenty of forest trails in the Cloudcroft area that are quite ride-able on an ATB. In fact there is at least one annual Mountain Bike Race event that's gaining in popularity.

As for road biking, the best low-traffic road is the one running between Cloudcroft and Sun Spot. Not flat, by any means, but very ride-able for anyone in good shape.

Thanks.
No wide shoulders, but since you are going downhill, you can almost keep up with the cars... sometimes they slow you down.

I think the roads north and south of Cloudcroft are better for riding... less traffic and cooler this time of year.
