I'm looking for a place to build a homestead or bugout palace in case of apocalypse or rapture (Hey, the Kristian Kooks could be right, why take a chance?). Someplace with adequate water to grow a garden for 6 people with lots of privacy but not too far from civilization. Yes, I want my cake and eat it too. Am I correct in thinking the SW part of NM is more verdant than the rest?

I'd say the far north is the most verdant, but you can get plenty of water for a garden just about anywhere by drilling a well. Most of NM gets adequate rainfall from July-Sept, so you shouldn't need to water much then.

How are you going to power that well after the apocalypse?

I think there is a bunch of intentional type communities off the grid near Taos. I personally love the far nothern part of New Mexico. I can do about everything you want right here in Eastern Oklahoma thouogh.

geos wondered where to:

> ... build a homestead or bugout palace in case of apocalypse or rapture
> ... with adequate water to grow a garden ... lots of privacy ...

What makes you think that if you found such a place that you
could hold onto it in the "case of apocalypse or rapture?"

It doesn't matter how well fortified it is, you can't defend it.
It doesn't matter how well armed you are, there will be someone who's
better at killing and has more people to attack you than you have to defend it.

In "case of apocalypse or rapture," all you need is one gun and one bullet
and a place to blow your brains out.

In addition, pretty much any post that flames "right-wing-kooks" or "left-wing-nuts"
or whatever group or side you want to slam turns into a flame-fest in short order,
the thread gets locked, and is useless as a reference item for those who are
mature enough to refrain from such behavior.

It appears that most of your posts contain such language. It's not appreciated
here like it is to the denizens of [Politics and Other Controversies].

Yeah, that would work. Probably a wind-powered pump is possible too.
