And if the Feds shut down our forest it will be for Forest Fire Danger and if The Bears and Mountain Lions are hungry enough it will be for Danger from Animals. el pintada kid

Better the Forest service shut down the forest than some careless hiker burn it down.

Clairz – Hiking and recreation trails are a good use for the old roadbeds. Not only are the trails used they are kept from becoming overgrown.

I understand for Fire danger, I was thinking you may have had another reason. This was talked about 4 years ago with a guy we met. The lower trail coming back will have some interesting offshoots to go explore. I have been in some of the canyons just south of Alamo.

It's time to start bitching about this now. If enough people complain they will not close it.

Bah! That sort of rationale does not pass any test of logic. You still have the idiots driving and throwing cigarettes out the window, vehicles and equipment causing sparks, lightning strikes, etc.

There is simply no good reason to ban hiking, horse riding, or biking. There is nothing about those activities that poses a fire hazard! If the danger is really that extreme then we also need to evacuate the towns and close access completely.

Great news and information 6"3! I'm going to do some more reading on this. It reminds me of what they did for some other 'trails' in the country, like the Katy and a few who's names I can't remember right now
Utilize those old train tracks and the work that went into them a long time ago! Half of the job is done Great for horses, bikers, walkers, runners and camping in some very beautiful places. Thanks for this info!
