What brings you to Carlsbad?
Don't let the crime statistics fool you. Carlsbad has a major drug(meth) problem like the rest of the state and for a small town it is quite rampant but well conceled and under-reported to give the city a better reputation. The city is basically run by a few businessmen/politicians including the mayor who have prevented any new businesses from coming to town. Therefore the city has not grown in about 30 years. There is no shopping here and very few restaurants asides from fast food. There is a river that runs through the city and you can walk along there and it is somewhat maintained unlike the rest of the city which is pretty much run down. There are also a few trials and a scenic overlook from where you can see most of the city. From the roads to the buildings and houses - everything looks like it is about 2-3 decades old. There was a flood that wiped away a part of a road and it took the city 2 years to repair that road -that should give you an idea of where city priorities are. I could go on but what exactly are you looking for? |

There are some very negative opinions in here!
I just have to comment "You get out of life what you put into it!!!" For those who prefer small towns Artesia, NM is wonderful... Some say it smells but that depends on the wind direction, & whether you're down wind of Navajo when its blowing off steam, or from one of the dairies........ If you think it stinks here don't roll through southern Az.,Or.,Wa.,Ca. Fla.,Ga.,SC.,NC.,Tx.,Ms.,La.,Al.,or just about any populated area of any mid-western or north-eastern states... The water??????Check-out the places in the US that are doing research on people who grew up there for exposures to serious toxins, My husband grew up in rural n-east, I'm n-mid-west we're both on lists from those areas!!!! Talking about crime & illegals look around the U.S. has been run over, I've lived in most of the US it has become a nationwide problem, They've practically doubled the populations of the majority of small towns through out the nation! I've family & friends in 2/3rds of the U.S., The number one complaint is the illegal situation, second is the drugs/gangs!! I've been waiting to get back here for 5 years, If you like the outdoors, animals, gardening, & friendly faces Artesia can be a wonderful place... Check-out the garden club , the bowling alley... Short wide open trips (no traffic )can change your scenery on a day trip... .. You can grow most anything with little effort.. I've lived in more of the US than I haven't, for the weather, people, cost of living, Artesia is hard to beat for families... If there are children check-out the benefits of NM education! But environment is a factor, but where ever you are the most important factor in your childrens education will be YOU!!! We have had to move repeatedly with children, with help they maintained good grades and are now in or heading for college! My son is Autistic & I'm moving back so he has a chance at making a life for himself, Which few places will even let him have the opportunity to try. Oh Well to each thier own, that's my not so humble opinion!! Have a wonderful life how ever you chose to live it!!! ![]() |
