Sight Seeing Trip From CA to AR
We are going to take a slow moving sight seeing trip from Ca to Ar along Interstate 40. We would like to make some stops at local tourist attractions along the way. We will be stopping at the Grand Canyon first and heading east from there. Can anyone suggest some sight seeing or tourist attractions along the way that would be fun to stop at? Thank you!!

Glacier National Park is always nice in the winter, but you didn't indicate how much time you have for stopping. Yellowstone would be closer if your time is limited.
If you can be more specifc as to how many miles you'd like to cover per day, I'll bet you'll get better answers.

We always stop at the Jack Rabbit Trading Post in Jack Rabbit, AZ, on the old Rte. 66. You can take your picture sitting on the Jack Rabbit.

Meteor Crater, Painted Desert, Petrified Forest are worth a stop, I think.
There is a wonderful museum in Flagstaff, on the road that leads to/from the Grand Canyon:
Museum of Northern Arizona
And a side trip to Sedona is always nice.
Make sure you look out for the dinosaurs along I-40, particularly in AZ and NM
Maybe a detour to historic Route 66, once you are in New Mexico:

Gallup is a very interesting town, and lots of things to see in Albuquerque. Tulsa , OK is a neat town.

One more thing. In Winslow, AZ is a great old hotel. The La Posoda. (sp) Old railroad hotel with nice rooms and dining. Flagstaff is a great little college town.

Painted Desert/Petrified Forest are worth your time. Word of advice - the park is in a very isolated area and the main road through the park is over 20 miles long, with lots of sites along the way. Your best bet is to start at the south entrance of the park (which requires you to get off I-40 at Holbrook, AZ and travel about 20 miles along isolated highway). From the south, you'll see several Petrified Forest exhibits (and there is a short film in the t-shirt shop as well). When you cross over I-40, you'll see the Painted Desert exhibits , which is a series of mesas that have various hues of red, pink, and tan. And at the very end, before you get back on I-40, you'll have another gift shop. Oh, and taking any of the petrified wood is a no-no.
