Default Highlands University/Las Vegas, NM Info

I'm planning on attending Highlands University for graduate school, but would like some genuine opinions on the school regarding quality of teaching, class size, nearby entertainment stops, etc.

Also, I'd like to know what the average cost of living is in Las Vegas, NM... I'm used to paying about $500 for a 2 bed/2 bath, but I can adjust...

Thanks for any helpful information!

It's not a real school, it's sort of a perpetual job bank for political hacks in New Mexico. I can't imagine a less marketable degree than a doctorate from Highlands.

Thanks for the info... I was pretty much shooting in the dark, looking for anything anywhere...
should've figured it isn't too reputable when I noticed the admission requirements were way below what I expected... thanks for the confirmation!

Hi. I've been trying to research the universities in NM, there's not a very long list, so I recognize this name as one that I've looked into as having a satellite branch at San Juan College in Farmington. As far as I understood it, Highlands didn't have a doctoral program. Is there more than one that I might be confusing it? Why does it have a bad rep? Thanks

Highlands has a reputation as a refuge for non-anglo students. It has a 60% hispanic population. It's also regularly wracked by incompetent administrators who are non-academics. Here's a little story about one of the most recent scandals. Manny Aragon was hired as a pure political payoff (can he even read?) and promptly got to work firing anyone who questioned his credentials or didn't formerly support his political career. He's now in federal prison I believe for stealing millions of taxpayer dollars during the construction of a courthouse in Bernalillo County.

You don't know what your talking about sjbasin. I agree that it had a bad deal with Manny Aragon, but if you have never went to school there you wouldn't know. I recently graduated from highlands, and think that it is an exceptional school for a masters degree, though it doesn't have a doctoral program. I attended the school for 5 years and really liked it. My advice to anyone that wants to know how the school and campus are, is to go see for yourself.

I stand corrected. My original post should have read " I can't imagine a less marketable degree of ANY kind than one from New Mexico Highlands".

Viva Manny.
