Oh yay wind warning
We are under a high wind warning with blowing sand tomorrow for S NM, joy of joys and we have a soccer game. Gotta love NM in the late winter, early spring.

I hope its not too windy tomorrow. My first trip north of Santa Fe and I'd like to be able to see the scenery.
Of course if its too dusty, that is a good excuse for another trip at a later date.

But "mom" the question is, do they buy soccer balls the colors of the state zia flag? You could maybe see the yellow and red balls better in one of the sand storms right? LOL
Fischer-girl, one thing I can advise to do in prep of one of the sand storms- protect you car! Get it covered up, or in a garage Or you could have a sandblasted paint finish when it's over
Oh and, close the windows LOL

Same here, ajzjmsmom.
Wind and sand is not my favorite kind of NM weather .... and I would never describe it as exciting.

Hmmmm that bears consideration, it will definately be interesting but what would be better is if they would just cancel the game. I don't think my allergies can handle this.
AlisonL, they are saying visibility will be less than one mile tomorrow, I know this was for southern NM it may not be to bad up your way. The biggest visibility problems will probably be between Deming and Lordsburg.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but about a year ago at this time a motorist was killed 15 miles west of Deming in one of those storms. I stayed the night before at the Western Motel, within walking distance of the Deming truck terminal. Had breakfast that morning and a bevy of ambulances and fire trucks roared through on I-10.
I've been through dust storms there before, they are NO FUN.

My hubby worked in Lordsburg and we lived in Silver City and yeah the sandstorms would shut down I-10 and leave motorists stranded. We didn't get the sand up in Silver and not quite as much wind. Then we lived in Carlsbad and when it would get windy there they would shut down the pass between there and El Paso, NM winds and sandstorms are definately an experience and not my favorite time of the year. My 21 yr old ran track in high school and the running joke in the house was "it must be track season, the winds have started." You could be at a track meet with no winds, nice and warm and in a matter of minutes the winds were blowing and you were freezing. No wonder the meterologists in NM can't ever get the weather right, it changes so much and so fast.

I always thought it funny when the wind blew, and it rained, the rain would kick up dust, which would mix with rain and you would get mud storms. I remember in Roswell in the 70's having to wash dried mud off the windows on the truck so we could go home after a ball game........
