Moving to Alamogordo
Moving to Alamogordo this week and still feeling a little nervous. My husband has a good job offer down there and he thinks its time to move so I’ve decided to follow. I am really interested in knowing if there are things to do during the day. . I.e. book groups, quilting clubs.
I will be quitting my job and have no plans to get a job while I am down there. I am open for volunteering and such but am worried about how to network and make friends. I don’t want to sit at home alone all day!
We do not have any children and are both in our late 20's. If you have any ideas of groups or such please let me know. Any help would be great!

Welcome to Alamogordo, you are coming at a good time when the weather is nice. I am not to sure about book groups but my next door neighbor was talking about quilting groups the other day. I think she was saying there is a couple of them.

we have a very nice city with smart people that live here. problem is smart people have other things to do than run the city, so we have some very unsavery people on the city council.. we have a nice library but they would perfer to build a 3 million dollar library than to fix the water situation, or the bad streets the council or their friends live on. someone's pockets will be lined if this happens.. $3 million for library that can be built for half million at most? are you sure you would want to come to a city that does this? you will be paying for this corruption and have to smile about it.. oh and ask around about the 3 million they gave to a cookie factory that never opened. our city officials had a private meeting and gave it to a private business. 3 million taxpayer dollars that the taxpayers should have voted on or should have been let in on the meeting. fraud!
we also have commisioners like griggs that will abuse his power to close a business if it suits him.. not saying he does this, just heard it from the code enforcement cop he told to do it this happens everywhere right? I'm posting this to see how long it takes to get shut down.. sent the links out for friend to watch this.. if you know of any more secret illegal dealings this city is doing, feel free to post it.. eventually they will be caught and prosecuted..

Uh huh. You think Alamo is the only city with *unsavery* people? What do those folks do anyway? Run about, bashing piggy banks and draining S&L's in the name of *un-saving*?
Punctuation and spell check can go a looooong way.
No place is perfect, not one single, solitary place on God's green earth is free of rats in office. It's up to the people who live there to decide whether they're gonna fight it or roll over and take it.
Not to post on a message board, either as their first post OR the first post under a new identity, to scare someone who simply asked about daytime activities for SAH-wives.
No one's bitin' here, troll on somewhere else.

Welcome to Alamogordo.
I'm in Timberon which is 1 1/2 hours up the mountain from where you'll be.
There is a book club in Alamo and I'm sorry I can't tell you the name of it but I remember reading about one and it might have been listed in the Alamo paper.

You took my thoughts, every town no matter where it is, has it's issues. I think each person has the ability to make a bad situation good or a good situation bad, it just depends on your attitude.
IMO Alamogordo is a good place to live, if you like to shop you have either LC, EP or if you want to make the drive ALB. if WalMart or the internet won't do for you. There traffic is minimal except on 1st at the high schools lunch time.
All this being said I think if the OP comes with a good attitude she will enjoy her time here.
