Alien Theme Park Planned for Roswell
By Bryan L. Temmer

Orlando, Florida; Tampa, Florida; Williamsburg, Virginia; Hershey, Pennsylvania; Anaheim, California.

These tourist destinations immediately bring to mind theme parks. They evoke feelings of happiness, fun and leisure. Roswell, New Mexico – not the same response. Instead, UFO’s and aliens are brought to mind, as well as the Roswell Incident of 1947. Roswell has not been considered a tourist destination and it certainly has not been thought of as a vacation spot sure to provide fun and excitement. That is all about to change.

As a long-time roller-coaster and theme-park enthusiast and a science- fiction buff, I had the idea in 2005 to build an alien theme park. Living in close proximity to three major theme parks in Florida, I have been a frequent visitor, enjoying the many rides and attractions with my wife and two sons. I became interested in what makes a successful theme park, and began to study and research the industry. I began to develop my own ideas for attractions and ways to improve the experiences at theme parks. Above all, I wanted to provide entertainment and happiness to others. And so, the Alien Apex Resort, an alien-themed destination was born. It appeared to be a solid idea and I received very favorable feedback from those with whom I shared my alien vision.

But where to build it?

Theme-park developers have many things to consider when deciding where to build a new park. The location of an alien theme park did not take much thought at all. Because the city of Roswell has world-wide recognition that immediately evokes thoughts of UFOs and aliens, and the legendary Roswell Incident of 1947 continues to resonate in the minds of the public 60 years later, there is no other place to create a year-round permanent celebration of the alien phenomenon.

How does a simple family man, originally from Brooklyn, NY, begin to build a theme park? That in itself is a roller-coaster ride. But, being a rollercoaster enthusiast, I was prepared for the challenge. I shared my idea with the Mayor of Roswell at the time, Bill B. Owen, and current City Planning Director, Zach Montgomery. Instead of hanging up on me and reporting me to a mental health facility, the expected response, they actually remained on the phone. They listened, asked questions, and just when I thought I would hear, “Thanks, but no thanks,” they pledged their support. They offered to do anything they could to help make it happen.

As excited as I was, I knew the Grand Opening of Alien Apex Resort was still a lot of hard work and many obstacles away.

Dr. Kevin Boberg, Dean of the College of Business at New Mexico State University, and his graduate students agreed to research and construct a feasibility study for the park. The feasibility study’s findings were extremely positive. After gaining support from local elected officials, we pushed on to receive support from the jurisdictional state senators and representatives, Cabinet Secretary for Tourism, Michael Cerletti, and New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson.

With the feasibility study and the support of important local and state politicians, the State Legislative Body agreed to provide the funding needed to pay for the Alien Apex Resort business plan, cost-benefit analysis, schematic designs, and other documentation to prove viability. When completed, these items will be presented to theme-park developers, who have already shown a strong interest in the concept.

We are reaching out to companies interested in submitting a proposal to provide the professional services needed to create these documents and take the project to the next phase. Once a final bidder has been selected and the documents are completed, investors will be sought out, theme park developers engaged, and the construction phase of development can begin.

Alien Apex Resort, Inc. celebrates the Roswell Incident and a plethora of other UFO and alien subjects. The theme park will feature Alien Abduction-The Ride ™ , an indoor roller coaster simulating an alien-abduction experience which propels guests through stunningly realistic sets at high velocity, using advanced animatronics, stunning special effects and magnetic roller-coaster technology. Alien Apex Resort, Inc. also plans to feature a multitude of family oriented rides, attractions, shopping and themed dining experiences, while offering the latest in alien and UFO studies and the search for life beyond Planet Earth. In the evenings, guests will be able to enjoy The Symbiosis TM , a multi-sensory production that combines elaborate fireworks and special effects set to an original musical score that recreates the famed Roswell Incident of 1947.

Timing is everything. This July, the city of Roswell will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Roswell incident (Roswell UFO Festival 2007 OFFICIAL WEBSITE, schedule, etc). My family and I are hitting the road and will be traveling to join in the festivities. The four-day event, July 5-8, will feature guest speakers, authors, live entertainment, family-friendly activities and, possibly, an alien abduction. What a great time to introduce Alien Apex Resort to the citizens of Roswell and to the world.

Will Alien Apex Resort become a reality and make Roswell, New Mexico an internationally-recognized destination? I feel very confident it will. One July, in the not too distant future, you might also feel compelled to check out the annual UFO Festival while you’re in town visiting this prosperous, booming city and the new reason why both believers and nonbelievers are flocking to it. There will be no speculation or mystery surrounding this “incident.” Welcome to the future of Roswell, New Mexico, where you will soon discover the truth and ride the legend.

Default If you build it...they will come. :-)

I don't know if an Alien Theme Park will work or not, but I'm all for anything that will help New Mexico's economy.

Thousands of people, have traveled thousands of miles to see the UFO Museum after all.

Let's hope, wherever in the Roswell area it's built, it will be a successful "Field of Dreams!" I'm not smirking here...honest I'm not.

Are there going to be amusement rides? I'd suggest a giant weather balloon that plunges to earth, and when it "almost" crashes, little guys like this fall out, and scare the spectators.

At least, maybe it will take some attention away from those other aliens who come to NM seeking a better life...like our grand-fathers, and great-grandfathers did. Shame on them.

Everybody just ease back a bit, and take a deep breath! Ah! Much better!

Adios! (No offense to any neo-Nazis out there, manning our borders to protect us from "Aliens.") These are probably the same guys who came up with the "Weatherballoon" idea. See photo:

So, let me get this straight: You are all for anything which will help the economy of NM, but shame on those 'aliens' who would come to NM seeking a better life?

Default Private Project

The project is a 100% private enterprise. All Roswell has to do is lend it the city name (also our brand) and maybe some land.

Default Delayed

There was a technical glitch in the way the State appropriations were written last year so there is a delay to clear that up and a new request for appropriations again in 2008 legislation. The state grant is to help the city with plans for the park with a contracted consulting firm specializing in theme park designs. The actual development and operation of the park will be like any other theme park – private enterprise. If all goes well in Santa Fe, the project will move forward again in April. If not, that will be a major lose to the NM tourism trade.
