nm09: You make some rather good points, but your initial post was so negative concerning Alamogordo that you could hardly expect to be welcomed with open arms. Many people actually like Alamo...possibly you don't because you weren't given a choice as to where to live. I can understand that feeling of being dropped into a backwater, but you might give it more of a chance.

I agree, catman. The initial tone of the OP's post ruined any chance of getting help -- if presented in a better way, perhaps the OP would have received what she was looking for. That said, some posters went too far in the rude department, too. IMHO. Which means nothing.

Here's the problem: being married to a person in the military means you are going to have to move to different places. Some you will like, some you will not. Alamogordo as the worst? I doubt that. Minot or Eielson would have to be a couple of the worst assignments. Maybe the op just isn't cut out to "follow him wherever he may go".

any new info on Alamogordo. I am thinking about moving there for a change. I work with computers. I love the outdoors, and employing new places. Any additional info would be appreciated.
Thanks

OK. Then, she must have been dumb or blind?

You don't enlist, and get to beg and choose where you want to be stationed. You must go where they send you.

If you don't like those apples, don't re-enlist. simple.

Some assignments are better than others.
Make the best of what you receive. simple.

A person who enlists surely must not be thinking they can spend their entire enlistment time in a starbucks sipping java.

You could have gotten an even worse assignment.

and, it does not appear as if it is the op making the entire drivel, it looks like an excerpt from a blog somewhere "buffalo daddy" garbage. so, I don't think the op is enlisted at all.

Military assignments are what you make of them. If you arrive with a bad attitude you most likely will not get the most out of the assignment.

The military draft in the US ended in 1973 (I think that was the year), so no one was recently drafted, they entered US military service voluntarily and solemnly swore or affirmed an oath...

I still have a problem with her "it's all beyond my control" attitude. Such a cop out. We all make decisions, and one of hers landed her in Alamogordo. Suck it up and make the best of it. I'm not buying her noble claim that she's in the service defending our rights to freedom of speech. I could make the same claim as I pay about 25% of my income to the federal government to finance our military adventures.

HI,
I would suggest you read many of the different threads on CD. If you have the chance to visit before you move, I would, as some like it and some do not. It all depends on how much time you can put into getting to know the people and getting involved. For me if I had my choice again, I would choose Alamogordo again.

You may want to start a new thread so you will get your comments.
