caydriver: Great post! You must have been very proud. Although I have at times disapproved of some of the things our military were assigned to do, I never blamed the soldiers. My eyes were opened by the incredibly shabby treatent some of them received upon returning from VietNam. While I was against that war, it wasn't the soldiers' fault. There but for fortune.

Catman, am very proud. He thinks he would like to go to combat medic school which has me a little concerned. I talked with my 92 year old mother, and she just laughed and reminded me of the time I drove off in my 1966 Corvair, loaded, and headed to the Air Force. She said 'got to let them go and follow their heart"!

caydriver: he should look at the IDMT (independent duty med tech) career field in the Air Force. Might be right up his alley. Pretty cool job.

I have been reading all the responses to NM09 included her second post. Yes, there have been some unnecessary statements which ended up being a personal attack on her. Yes, it was hard not to respond negatively because of her very negative assessment of Alamogordo. Now NM09 is feeling she is right in her assessment because of the attacks, however not all the post were from people living in Alamogordo. So once again an opinion is formed against Alamogordo, which is sad.
NM09, since you are an experienced military personnel (and thank you for your service) you understand that it is very offensive to publicly ridicule, and demean the people and area where you are stationed. A superior officer would probably not be pleased to see this, which considering the anonymity of the user ID you are safe from that issue. As a former military spouse, I know you can speak among friends about how much you hate being stationed somewhere, but you are respectful enough not to insult the locals.
There are positives and negative anywhere you live, no one place is immune. What is important is to focus on the positives and find a way to deal with the negatives. I have to laugh about the "slums" in Alamogordo, I have traveled and lived many places and believe me the worst of worst in Alamogordo could not be considered true slums. There is youth gang activity that is true, but there are many organizations in this town working to keep it under control. The comment was made that people are unfriendly here, then it was stated no one can move through Walmart because people are blocking everything having conversations....sounds pretty friendly to me...a community.
I found out a long time ago someone has to go really out of their way to be jerks if you smile at them and they don't smile back. So I smile at everyone...and say hi, most times it is a positive response. And the times it hasn't been at least it confused them!
The rental situation is poor that is true, they are over priced. Not because the people in Alamogordo are taking advantage...you will find out many out of state investors buy the housing because it is cheap and drive up the rental prices.
As another poster commented there are companies finding this place good for business. Pro Check is one and 1-800-flowers is another. With some new blood in the city as someone else mentioned, perhaps it will begin to bring in more businesses.
Another poster commented on the traffic situation and rude drivers...and said drive in DC/NOVA and figure out how bad it is here. I had to laugh and totally agree as I worked in the DC/NOVA area and that is one of many reasons I relocated to Alamogordo.
It is true moving here especially from a large metropolitan area can be a huge culture shock, but instead of fighting it try to find something of value. Raising a child here has many positives over those large metropolitan areas, where everyone gets lost in the system. Perhaps once you move on with your child and experience raising a child in other environments; Alamogordo will not have looked so bad.
I am sorry NM09 that your experience has been so negative, I do hope for your well being that it does improve. New Mexico and specifically Alamogordo is not for everyone, just chalk it up to experience and at least you will know you don't want to live here.
I am a transplant that chose to return here, I know it is far from perfect...but I go up to the mountains and look around and know it is pretty good for me.

Thank you for your post, I enjoyed reading it very much.
You are so right, that Alamo is not for everyone, but many of us who have homes here enjoy it.

Good post I hope the OP reads this and can see Alamogordo from a different perspective. Every town has issues and it is up to the individual to make the best of the circumstances. And you are quite correct in that it is not for everyone. It would be really sad to me to think about the OP being miserable the entire time she is here.

I don't think the OP is interested in reading positive threads.
She chooses to be a negative person that will go through life blaming others.

Why don't we let this thread die? The thread title is so negative, every post just bumps the thread again.

I was hoping it would be closed again.
The OP is trolling.
