great news but I do have to add, Bella Vista AR was rated one of the most disirable places for retirement about 6 months ago, Fayetteville and surrounding communities as the best place to do business (4th best) by Forbes just last week and Bella Vista as the 3rd most healthy place to retire. MY point, it is awesome to see our areas mentioned but I really don't put oo much stake into any of these studies. Oh and NWA was rated in the top 20 areas to raise a family...WHo knows...

It is still fun to see your community or state mentioned..

Have you gotten used to the humidity again after having lived in NM for so long?

I have never been able to tolerate it very well, even after 6 months in MS.....

One of the reasons I want to move to NM is to get away from the humidity (and the severe weather). I've lived here since I was born and never will 'get used to it'. I love that dry climate in NM.

we have, best part it isn't anything like Dallas..Our summers are much cooler and much shorter. I think yesterday Dallas was about 80 degrees and we were in the low 60s..
Plus our skin isn't dry as a bone anymore...The thing we miss the most, weather wise, the beautiful sunny skies..and of course the sunrises and sunsets. We have some pretty cool ones here, but nothing like NM>

Nmnita,

I have always found that Dallas and Hot Spring nearly share the same weather patterns.

In addition, found that Bella Vista appears to be higher in Humidity based on historical information than Dallas. See below

Taken from Weather Underground -> Weather Station History : Weather Underground

Dallas

Current: High: Low: Average: Temperature: 59.0 °F / 15.0 °C 63.4 °F / 17.4 °C 54.1 °F / 12.3 °C 59.6 °F / 15.3 °C Dew Point: 38.3 °F / 3.5 °C 56.3 °F / 13.5 °C 28.6 °F / -1.9 °C 43.8 °F / 6.6 °C Humidity: 46% 86% 27% 58%

Bella Vista

Temperature: 44.1 °F / 6.7 °C 59.0 °F / 15.0 °C 44.1 °F / 6.7 °C 53.1 °F / 11.7 °C Dew Point: 41.0 °F / 5.0 °C 48.2 °F / 9.0 °C 29.5 °F / -1.4 °C 39.0 °F / 3.9 °C Humidity: 84% 91% 34% 61%

So it sounds like you're happy where you are. That's good!

I've been to Little Rock and Texarkana...and I found both very humid....but you are talking to a desert rat who grew up in dry West Texas, LOL!!

But since Lake Amistad was developed (120 miles from my hometown)....and the growth of Midland, TX (where I spent most of my working life)....the whole area is more humid than it was a few years ago.

It is nice, Catman! That and the fact that the nights cool off makes it really nice, even this far south.

I am headed for Fort Davis Monday, and I am really looking forward to it (last trip was 1991) and Big Bend (1977).

I am SO looking forward to some good Tex-Mex. That is one thing that I really miss here....and if I didn't know how to cook it, I'd go nuts, LOL!!

I like New Mexican food, but it really bugs me that they have toned the fire down for all of the wussy Midwesterners who live here!!!

One of the waitresses at Alamo Grill was telling me about that. When they first opened, I could ask for some nice, really hot sauce from the kitchen. While it would have burned a non-chilehead up, I found it adequate. She said that the locals had been complaining that the salsa brought out was too hot. So, they toned it down.

When Song/Charlie, Cindy/Keith, Chilegal and I ate there recently, there was no hotter sauce to be had. I requested some, but.....

I guess I'm just going to have to pack my little container of chiltepines to fire stuff up.

Having friends near Roswell and going through from time to time, yes, it is still VERY affordable. Until maybe a decade or so ago, prices were way down. But there has been development in the northwest area and five miles west of town on 70/380.

It's not everyones cup of tea, certainly, but I like it. This , of course. has been discussed on other threads.

While I'm not a senior just yet (but closing fast), they still have a ways to go for advanced medical services. Albuquerque, El Paso, and Lubbock obviously are your best bet for specialized medical procedures. And it is 3 hours plus to get to those cities. It's my understanding that Amarillo has some quality medical facilities. Gberry, if you're reading, is that right on Amarillo? Readers, any opinions on this subject?

The real estate affordability is important to seniors. But so is health care facilities.
