It's funny that I was just thinking of going over to Home Depot this morning, to shop for a new front porch light fixture and also a kitchen ceiling light. About the only thing I can see wrong with Home Depot and Lowe's is that they're selling only Chi-crap, cheap plastic junk that might last only a very few years.

I'll probably end up taking a pass again. The last time I went on this mission everything at Lowe's and Home Depot was too crappy to buy, even considering that I hope to sell my house soon.

Look at lighting stores with a professional commercial parts department out back. Ask them who is good and who is not. Then hire the good guy even if he costs more and you have to wait. Always hire a licensed electrician. Leaking plumbing is an annoyance; leaking electricity can kill you.

YES -- I think its a common scam people (not HD) are pulling off. Make a list of all the items you bought, write down the time and expense associated, and bring to the manager's attention and insist on a discount -- also, don't buy items that appear to have been opened!

Your post follows mine although you are probably not replying to me specifically...

I think I should look at lighting stores and electrical supply stores, not HD and Lowe's. I'm a home improvement hobbyist and I have no problem at all doing electrical work, particularly something as simple as changing a light fixture.
