Home Depot product problems..
Anyone out there have the same type of problem re: parts missing from electical items.
Again and this is the 3rd or 4th time that we have purchased lighting fixtures from HD and had parts missing
NOW that BIG PROBLEM IS: today out electricians come out (150 miles roundtrip) to install hanging light fixtures for our log home (high ceiling) using rented scaffolding and set it up and open the boxes and start putting together the light fixtures ONLY TO NOT HAVE ALL THE PARTS. Now it is not possible to open every box and know if all the parts are there before taking it out of the store...I am not an electrician and cannot determine that, AND HOME DEPOT DOES NOT HAVE THE HELP THAT CAN DO IT EITHER..
So, I am going to have to wait for x days to get shipped what we need, (the local store doesn't carry it). and then I am getting an invoice from my electricians and taking it to HD and asking them to reinburse us for the added cost this is causing...which is costing me more $$$
When I called HD today they said...sorry....about that..
we can reorder and it will take about 15 days...like the flooring contractor is due out and we have to hold off now to keep the scaffolding up...additional $$$.BTW THE PARTS WERE NOT MADE IN THE USA...Like most stuff it was outsourced to CHINA...and they can't do it right...
Mad as a wet hornets nest....
I WILL NOT SHOP AT HOME DEPOT AGAIN AFTER THIS EXPERIENCE.
I will have to drive to ABQ or Showlow,Az and go to Lowes....they are much more able to help out...

Hunter,
I don't know about missing parts from Home Depot products, I am going to ask my husband if he has had problems with that....
BUT I do know this .... my husband has been frustrated with the service (or lack of service) at Home Depot for quite a long time and he has begun going to Lowe's more and more ... where he is impressed with the customer service.

I prefer Lowes to Home Depot for a variety of reasons.
I'm having much work done in my house and this week, the plumber was to install a vanity and sink that the contractor bought at Home Depot. When they opened the box, they saw that the vanity was damaged and needed to be returned. The contractor told me that this is not unusual with Home Depot or as some call it Home Cheepo.

I don't know about the Lowe's in ABQ, but my experiences with the one here in Alamogordo have been less than stellar. I got my mini-blinds from them, and it took two visits from the store manager and 4 visits from the subcontractor to get it right.
It started off badly with their screwing the paperwork up, so that I had an extra trip out there again, having to wait in the store for an hour while they stumble around with the order, and even being able to get the person in charge of the whole mess to contact me to get the process started.
I did order an item online (a 6-ft ladder that was not in stock at the store) and had it delivered to the store for pickup, and that went fine with no problems.
For window treatments, go somewhere else if you have a choice.
Missing parts are so common that it stinks. :-(
I have had no experience with Home Depot here.....but both Lowe's and HD were very good in Midland and Austin, TX.

I had an unrelated, but also serious problem with Home Despot. We had bought a new frig and a dishwasher, which were supposed to have free delivery. OK, you pay $55 each when you buy the items, then send in rebate forms to get the $110 back. No big deal, right? WRONG!! After 4 or 5 letters to them (which they ignored) I got the Minnesota State Attorney's office involved (since they have been pretty aggressive going after fake rebate offers.) They wrote a letter to HD's Texas office and about 2 weeks later, I got some B.S. letter saying I didn't have the right SKU number or some crap like that. Fortunately, I had copies of everything and sent back in (copies the SA office) and 3 weeks later they responded that yes, everything was OK and the check will be sent out right away. 1 month later no check, so got back with the SA's office, where they wrote another letter. HD came back 3 weeks later saying the check had gone to the wrong address or some other BS and a new check will be issued. I did finally get the check a few weeks ago, but it was the better part of 9 months (and a lot of crap) to get them to keep their part of the agreement. I told the SA's office that if they wanted to go after them for fradulant practices I would be the first on any class action suit they wanted to pursue!
Unbelievable that a company with such a long history and formerly a good reputation would p*** it away like this. We are fortunate to have Menard's here in the upper midwest, so I'm going to miss them when we move to 'Zozo in a couple of months. From what you guys say, Lowe's might not be too bad.
Anyway, the topic hit a nerve with me and thanks for letting me vent!

A few weeks ago an extreme wind gust damaged my garage door beyond repair.
In the process of seeing what was available and getting cost estimates, I checked
in with Home Depot.
Get this...
They want you to buy a door online (not through the store) including a
complete prepayment and THEN they will actually send someone out to
determine what you actually need and if the $2,000 product you just
bought might actually work..
No, I am NOT mistaken, I talked to their online rep as well as the local
store manager and they confirmed that this is the way they do business.
In contrast, Lowes charges $35 for an on site survey that is then credited against
your purchase; a reasonable way of doing things.

The last time I went to Home Depot I was talked down to. My hot water heater had gone out, and I had wrote down the brand and model number down. I wasn't bothered when I wasn't waited on right away because those things happen. I wasn't too bothered when they didn't have the right size one for me as those things happen.
The employee was baffled when I gave him my info and when I told him that it was a 30 gallon water heater because it was for a mobile home. From there on he was talking to me in a condescending manner. When asked why they don't special order one from Denver (I would have paid extra for it, and I would have had to). He told me "We only handle 40 and 50 gallon units for homes, not trailers. We don't mess with trailers!" "Why don't you run along to one of those small hardware stores, they can help you." I immediately shot back that I had always dealt with those small hardware stores except the one in my town closed up 6 months ago on account of big retailers swallowing them up, and I added that I don't appreciate being talked down to. I also told him I would write Home Depot headquarters and tell them about this experience. He just shrugged his shoulders, smiled, and walked away.

The Home Depots in the Phoenix area really suck too. After 3 bad experiences with them I try very hard not to use them at all. The only time I do is when I can't find the lump charcoal for my smoker any where else. They usually carry it, but other than that, screw them!

I wouldn't assume that Lowe's is any better. I've had nothing but problems and the runaround from the Lowe's here in Las Cruces when special ordering stuff. In fact, I won't order anything through them ever again.
