Imagination, however excessive, drives progress. A person born in 1890 and living to the age of 90 would have witnessed the transition from telegraphs to computers and from horses to putting men on the moon during their lifetime. What would a stealth bomber look like to people parked outside of an old west town? Would they be able to comprehend that the same physics that governs their horses and buggies allows for a machine with the capabilities of a Harrier vertical take off and landing jet?

Moore's law suggested the the number of transistors that could fit on a given chip would double about every two years. We're talking about exponential growth. Every few years voices would be heard about hitting 'the wall'. That the big gains have been seen. That the limits of size would shut it down, but Intel, AMD and others have continued to innovate and deliver, with a steady pipeline of new products. Forget the old timers, we went from a TRS-80 to a MacBook Pro in 25 years. That increased processing power is being leveraged by all the other technologies and fields, and the returns from that will yield materials and processes that will seem other worldly to the baby boomers. Even the finest modern steel is only capable of a pitiful percentage of what's theoretically possible in strength and flexibility. Nano technologies are still in their infancy but will return the same kind of far reaching effects that computers have accomplished.

I say dream on. There are plenty around to do the work of solving what's before us. Without the dreamers, we'll never know what's beyond the next horizon.

Thats great news. I have been looking forward to this project for quite some time. I think this may be the coolest project under development in the country.

Yeap i also agree about this is going to really help to transform poorish southern New Mexico and with some spinoff as some of the rocket component manufacturer's are looking at Las Cruces to locate production facilities.

Add also that White Sands Missle Range just east of Las Cruces is expanding along with Holloman AFB in Alamogordo is expanding and in El Paso just across the state line Ft. Bliss has a 5 billion dollar expansion going on so all of this has to help us in Southern New Mexico in the coming years.

Didn't want to leave out Cannon AFB in Clovis in eastern New Mexico also has a HUGE expansion going on.

Good for New Mexico .
