Do you have any idea just how far Reserve is from anywhere else? School is either right there or a very long ride.

Lots to do
Reserve is a very, very, small town. There is one school for grades K-6, and another for grades 7-12. As for what there is to do, it's the great outdoors and a very remote corner of NM. If you are into wilderness and wide open spaces, it's great. If you want to go to a movie, it's about 90 miles to Silver City (the nearest town of any size). A teenager not into hiking, camping, fishing, etc. might get bored. Moving a 14-yeard old from the city to Reserve might be cruel. Just my thoughts.

Boarding options
New Mexico Military Institute is a boarding school in Roswell. It is set up for just such a student. There are many 'far flung' schools in NM that are not able to provide the same opportunity that a college prep. boarding school can provide. You may want to consider www.nmmi.edu and find out about the great, albeit unique opportunity at NMMI.

I saw a good movie recently on Showtime or HBO that was called "Off the Map". It was all about some people that lived in a remote part of west central New Mexico near the continental divide, south of Gallup. Reserve is a further south from there, but the landscape pictured in the film would be similar to Reserve. Reserve might not be "off the map", but most city dwellers like me would call it remote. Beautiful terrain, but I would guess a person needs a strong sense of self reliance to make it there - not a whole lot of other people, business or services nearby to help out. Good luck to you, hope things work out OK - it will no doubt be an adventure.

we actually loved the area, there isn't a lot for a teen to do, but there are several youth groups and I hear a great volleyball team. it will be an adventure for all of us. I am looking at this as a positive move as we will have a home that is ours.
