I like this one better but the other way on 54 is okay too. You just need some good upbeat music to keep you going.
Either satellite radio or cd's you have burned.

No, I agree with both of you! I enjoy both roads, where you can simultaneously view the Organs and the Sacramentos. it's I-10 that I can do without. Tecaptl mentions I-10 to the AZ state line, and I am in agreement with him, except for the section where you wrap around the Florida mountains. That is a magnificent view, particularly at sunset. Vinegaroon mentions the Las Vegas to Springer, and yep, I-25 is really tough to drive in that area. Just complete monotony.

I agree with the I 25 LV to Springer one. I actually flew out of Denver to Seattle because I hate the drive to ABQ so much. But, after driving to Denver and going another 1/2 hour further to the airport, and paying ridiculous prices for parking......I'll put up with the boring drive. The ABQ airport is by far a slice of heaven.

I guess I am an odd ball, I look for different things on each trip I take. I travel 54 a lot on my trips and you never know what you could see - even something with PK on the building .

You guys and gals know this topic a lot better than I do. I only visit NM 4-6 times a year and drive a lot of the same roads all the time. I like a road that curves once in awhile and where the vista changes from time to time. I also like the challenge of a curvy road sometimes. I can pretty much see the mountains near El Paso as soon as I leave Alamogordo. This road (54) is straight as an arrow and the mirage of water is never ending.

One more thing and I hope this doesn't make any of you too mad, but my wife loves country music and that could be part of the problem, as some of the stations seem like they only have a 10-20 song play list.

I asked for your input and I got it. Thank you so much and lets keep this conversation going as it is very interesting to me and I hope for you too. I want to explore much more of NM in the future.

I agree, I just hook my mp3 with all my favorite songs up to the radio and off I go. So if you ever see some fool woman driving down the road singing it is probably me. I am usually dancing too with my kids saying " omgod please stop doing that" which of course makes me do it even more, nothing like embarrassing your kids. Music definately helps make the trip better and go much faster.

You are bringing backsome memories. I think Carlsbad to Vaughn is worse. At least my kids were still diapers when we lived there.

that's the one. I realize it has been close to 30 years since I did it with my son (1981) we drove from L.A. to Va. Hubby was already living in VA. The worst part of the entire trip was from the NM/AZ state line, through Lordsburg, and on to Texas, then east through Texas. We spent one night in Lordsburg and the next in Midland/Odessa area..
