Fire in Timberon (Alamogordo, Alamo, Cloudcroft: 2009, houses, cabin)

The water tower is correct, the winds have died down however, they were gusting 45mph so it whipped it out of control, the hope is to get it contained over night so it doesn't hit and structures so far there is no report of a house being burt.

Maywood and Dixwood is the water tower if my memory seves me correct, norwood is down a little further, either way, its way too close to all of our friends and family up there.

Thanks everyone for letting us know what you hear. This may be the best place to keep everyone posted. Mtncat will be a good source to let us know on the fire fighters side of it. We all have loved ones or friends up there praying all goes well for them.

themiria, your mom has a place to stay in Alamo if she needs it. I did talk quick to her as she was packing.

DN920, I can't say I can place your folks, but the names sound like I should. Thanks for the info you are giving also.
The streets yougave really give me the chills, my place is at San Juan and Carson... We are in Illinois right now, and will be back in 6 weeks.

All I worry about are the lives and people there. I just have a house - I worry about friends.

Does anyone have an idea on how it started?

Just heard on KRQE that structures are being lost, my folks said they can hear "Loud popping and explosions" and large bursts of flames coming ove the trees and they are assuming they are propane tanks going up is their only guess. From what I understand where the fire is is mostly "vacation" homes well that street anyway which I hope is true, we don't want anyone to lose thier only house... keep praying folks this is going to be a close one for everyone.

Chilegal, my parents moved out there a few years ago, my dad has been written up in the local paper he wears a gas mask and is on crutches everywhere. If you've been there lately or seen the local paper you may have seen him.

I haven't heard how it started, my mom said she woke up today after a nap and smelled fire looked out and a large stack of smoke was out near the water tower direction.. I will keep posting anything I can. As long as my folks are there they will post videos and keep us informed, I don't want to see any homes lost even vacation homes so I am prayin.

WOW, that video is sure something. Scares the stuffing out of me. Please keep us posted on how your folks are doing. Kent said he has met your dad.

I just hope that mowing and cutting more trees down around the house will help.. Mtncat you would like the looks of the place now..

I will keep you all posted, I hope your house and everyones house is alright, but like you said I am praying for all the people and friends.

I think the mowing and cutting will help, my dad said it's so dry up there it just crunches so anythng can help to reduce the fire risk around the homes.

Sitting here in St Charles MO, like yourself in IL is nerve racking to say the least hopefully they get a grip on this over night.. wish there was something I could do.

My mom called. She is back at her house. She has heard rumors of some people's houses having burned but is not sure. The fire is moving east & south. More in a few minutes.
