Thats great news. I have been looking forward to this project for quite some time. I think this may be the coolest project under development in the country.

Yeap i also agree about this is going to really help to transform poorish southern New Mexico and with some spinoff as some of the rocket component manufacturer's are looking at Las Cruces to locate production facilities.
Add also that White Sands Missle Range just east of Las Cruces is expanding along with Holloman AFB in Alamogordo is expanding and in El Paso just across the state line Ft. Bliss has a 5 billion dollar expansion going on so all of this has to help us in Southern New Mexico in the coming years.
Didn't want to leave out Cannon AFB in Clovis in eastern New Mexico also has a HUGE expansion going on.
Good for New Mexico .

Unfortunately, the groundbreaking ceremony scheduled for the 19th. will only be open to a select group of persons, e.g, media, dignitaries, and so forth. The ceremony will not be open to the public. We will track the local newspapers and give linx for the event if printed. Three buses will be utilized to transport these selected individuals to and from the spaceport locale.
It is my opinion that the main reason for not inviting the general public is because the road to the spaceport is not yet completed, and to avoid traffic problems which might interfere with construction workers and road building equipment, the road may have travel restrictions imposed.

I expect that is the case - still a long way to go 'til there is an actual road out there.
Some details from today's LC Sun-News:
"People in Las Cruces and attendees at the ceremony in Sierra County could get their first glimpse Friday morning of the WhiteKnightTwo mothership - part of Virgin Galactic's two-vehicle launch system. The aircraft, for the first time, will fly over Las Cruces, Truth or Consequences and the spaceport site sometime between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Friday, if weather holds out, according to the Spaceport Authority.
Wilson said people should be able to recognize it because "it will be an unusual aircraft."
Also Friday, viewers can watch a Webcast of the groundbreaking at the spaceport site ( Spaceport America) starting at 11 a.m.
Thursday, the public festivities will start at 5 p.m. at the New Mexico State University Horseshoe area, south of the intersection of Espina Street and University Avenue. Gov. Bill Richardson, a Virgin Galactic official and a representative from the Federal Aviation Administration will be among the speakers."
