It's too bad they couldn't have gotten things set up a month earlier, say, before Roswell's UFO days coming up, but no matter. It is indeed good news for the area. YOTS, what is Roswell's population up to about now-your best guess?

Roswell's air service is over 80% destination airport, meaning people originate from far away and visit Roswell and surroundings. With LAX service, that number will likely stay the same.
Now if only some enterprising executive would figure out that daily service from Albuquerque to Roswell would be a gold mine, the town itself would actually use its airport.

Aviation has mystified me for more than 50 years. Not how planes work, but the business end.
Mesa Air had a Albuquerque to Roswell flight a few years ago... It did not work out.

I'd say the population is just over 50,000. City leaders are saying its at 53,000 and are hoping to get an accurate count for the 2010 census resulting in Roswell becoming NMs fifth metropolitan area.

The population by many other estimates is sub-50,000.
The city leaders are probably far more interested in getting a >50,000 count than an accurate count, since that opens up many doors for growth.
This will probably be the third or fourth census where the city is desperate to break the 50k barrier, and possibly the third or fourth for them to fall short by a very small amount.

In 2001, I was able to fly from Hot Springs to Dallas to Brownwood and straight into HOBBS. Big Sky...tiny little plane but I loved it!! Now, Hot Springs has NOTHING!!!! Don't think Hobbs does either.
