If you don't need any of the conveniences, then Alamo should be good for its size and price of housing.
I would do LC if I were employed at WSMR. Good choice for you.

Alamogordo to WSMR is 55 miles one way. At $2.60/gal it will get very expensive plus 2 hour drive time on top of your works hours. The drive will get very old very quick. I know, I did it for 2 years. Live in Cruces if you work at WSMR, Alamo if you work at Holloman. If you take the job at WSMR please PM me about the job at Holloman, I got layed off, Thursday my last day and I could use the work

Actually my job offers are at Hospitals, Gerald Champion in Alamogordo and Mountain View in LC. Any experiences with these hospitals? The replies have been helpful, many of the earlier post were negative about Alamogordo.

Thanks

I don't know anything about Gerald Champion, but, the few experiences I've had with Mountain View were very positive.

I do have to say that when I was house-hunting a couple of years ago, looking in both Alamo and LC, I found that the prices in LC were actually lower for what I was looking for, and, there were many more houses to choose from in my price range.
Also, other conveniences (more shopping options, closer to major highways, shorter trips to the airport) mean that I spend less time driving around than I would have had I found the perfect house in Alamo.

In general, though, I think either is/would be a lovely place to live.

Alamogordo is only a 20 minute drive from cool pine forests in the Sacramento Mtns immediately to the east. A great relief in the long desert summer. Las Cruces is much larger and it's a university town.

Take your pick. I think they both have their charm. Alamo would be my choice, though.

Alamo would be my choice as well. That short trip to 20-degree cooler temperatures at near 9000 feet is a large part of it.

I live in Alamo and my daughter lives in Cruces and while Cruces offers more to do the traffic can be insane. Alamo is a pretty chilled out place and like others have said the cooler weather is not that far away.

Will you be renting until you find a house? If so you can look over the neighborhoods. There are a few areas that I would not move to, Boles acres and Dog canyon, and areas between 1st and 10th in town. Check for flood zones when buying, ins is much higher, and yes there can be floods.
Welcome to the neighborhood.
