Alamogordo, NM
I have job offers in Alamogordo and Las Cruces and debating where to go. The pay is more in Alamogordo (more remote), but I like small towns and I'm prior Air Force.

LC is not that far of a drive. You will be closer to the Mts, which is great. The base is right there, and you like smaller towns. Sounds like the answer for you.
If you have other questions ask away.

I would say Alamo. WAYYYY less traffic, mtns are min. away, and very friendly people too. Also probably cheaper cost of living as well.

From what you ask i'd also confer with what the others have said as Alamo is a smallish town (30,000 pop) and within 10 to 15 minutes from Holloman AFB. It's 20 minutes from Cloudcroft and 40 minutes from Ruidoso up in the mountains.

Yeah, I'd go with Alamogordo. It's a lot smaller than Las Cruces and the location is great!

Housing is definately alot cheaper in Alamo and you can drive either 90 miles to EL Paso or 65 to Las Cruces if there is anything that you can't get in Alamo or on the internet. Alamo is a nice place and if the pay is more seems like it would work.

I don't know what your job would be and all the details, I probably do not need to know. I have friends who live in Alamogordo due to the defense industry/contracts etc...
Based on what I know, I would select Alamogordo.

I would go with Alamogordo. You can always drive to Las Cruces if you have to.

Both towns are too small for me, but I would pick 'Cruces. It has the benefit of being the site of a major university which affords some ameneties not usually available in a town of that size. Seems to be more economic growth too, and not just associated with the defense industry which can be up and down. Alamo is a nice town, however.

I've contemplated this very scenario. My new job is at WSMR and my entire family lives in Cruces. For me, I need the conveniences offered by Las Cruces that Alamo doesn't have, i.e. multiple retail shopping outlets, multiple golf courses, access to El Paso.
If you don't need any of the conveniences, then Alamo should be good for its size and price of housing.
