How is your garden growing...
I have been ingaged with various varments/critters but seem to getting the upper hand...
have now...corn, beets, onions, tomatoes, watermelon, squash, carrots, cilantro, beans up...but the battle goes on every night.
Everything is covered in plastice, and or has a cap on...or tinfoil around the bases of the tomatoes.
the recent Thunderstorms have helped somewhat..
Even with the chicken wire and hog wire things get in..
lost a nice row of peas and some squash...
oh,..really have the pumkins covered real well also.
Happy trails...and good luck with your VICTORY GARDEN..

Just checked mine late yesterday, my first real tomato (about the size of my thumb nail) has had a visitor for dinner, DAMN. My squash leaves have a few holes, so I guess, as much as I hate to, I will have to use some chemicals on them in the next few days.

Are you asking how to keep the critters away?
Get some chickens.

I have 10 very healthy happy 9 week old chick's. Mixed type but some are
?Oddington and some are new hampshire and some are ??
Working on the chicken coop now. Need to have it done this week..
They are really growing...
I am now putting alumminum foil around the bases of the tomato plants
and will get some (sp) diathomaous earth this week to spread around.
Thinking of mini land mines next..
Happy trails,

My garden is starting to do well. It looks like I'm going to have to start trapping squirrels again. Those little bas%&^#s are starting to wage warfare against my plants. I have found four new tomatoe plants growing were I had two plants planted last year. They came up own there own and are doing qiute well.

It will be interesting to see what the volunteer tomato plants produce!
If you had hybrids the past year, there's no telling what you'll get. Seeds from hybrids never breed true, and will be more like one of its parents.
If you had heirlooms that didn't cross with anything else, they should be the same variety you planted!
Garden pests!! That's why I like my Earthbox wanna-bes......squirrels, slugs, cutworms and the like are not a problem!

My tomatos are all heirloom seeds from right her in NM. I hope they do like the ones I had last year did. Counting those four I have a total of nine tomato plants.

Then you should have a nice crop! Next year, I'm getting them out a month earlier!
I'm also going to try one or two new varieties.

WE used to have that happen with tomato plants in DC, sometimes with cukes as well. Actually in our case it was the birds carrying seeds from place to place after eating part of the plant. They would drop the seeds and the following year here we had these tomato or cuke plants. They would produce, but the fruit wasn't quite as large or as nice as the original plants. Good luck, I hope you have lots of healthy tomatoes.
Here I probably already have about 50 or more, but of course they are still green. Our squash is doing well. I still think gardening in NM was better than here in AR.
