People who grow up in urban areas don't really know this stuff...just like they think that beef comes in little plastic trays at the grocery store, not Elsie the cow getting stunned, gutted and cut into pieces...so this method of waste disposal can be a shock to some, but..One in Four households use it.

If 1 in 4 homes use this system (and I don't doubt that figure), then why do you
think people would be "shocked"?

Well, Mike....if you need a reason to pick nits with me you need to find something a little more substantial, don't you think? Kind of thin gruel so far. I fear you're getting off topic and will suffer the consequences.
I suggested that some might be shocked by this little "1 in 4" fact because the majority of US citizens who have grown up and continue to live in urban areas don't really understand that every small town and hamlet in America doesn't have city water, city sewer, curbside recycling or 228 channels on their tv sets, much less good cell service or high speed internet. As a lifelong resident of small town America in places that see considerable tourism from urban areas I have seen this my whole life, thus my tone of certainty and, yes, amusement.
One in four means that up to three of four may think the little swirly in the porcelain throne just goes Poof! and disappears.
In the picturesque village I grew up in on the shores of Lake Michigan, and as a businessman who saw a great deal of the public face-to-face, I lost count of the number of times someone from out of town asked me "who was the developer" of my hometown, because they really liked the accidental (news to them) results of many people's decisions over 150 years or so.
Thus informed by decades of urban/rural interface, I leapt to the conclusion that some urbanites do not realize how life and circumstances outside the suburban ring is different from their own, and that, like steaks in a tray, the reality might shock them. Not that I am implying anything negative about urban residents....heaven forfend. I certainly don't want to offend anyone for any reason at any time in any way no matter what.
Does that answer your question?
Hey, whaddya think about those Forest Rangers?

Kinda why I used the sarcastic smiley, Mike. But thanks very much for your input. Hey, how 'bout them Forest Rangers?
Song...the only thing I'm smokin' tonight is my wife's delmonico steak. She hates it when I leave it on the grill beyond very Rare. Oops! I blame it on the Mesquite chips....or hippies in the woods...whichever is more convenient at any given moment. Maybe it was Al-Queda or the Iranians that cooked it medium...anybody but me!

Well, hey, it's been sweet...but I really gotta go catch the wall-to-wall, 24/7 coverage of Michael Jackson kicking the rhinestone bucket for the next week or so.....then it's on to Sharks in the water. Even scarier than naked freaks in the forest!
