Default New Construction Homes Near Cannon? Gas? Schools?

We just found out my husband got a new job at Cannon. They want him there in 2 weeks (we're in D.C right now so yikes!). We're planning on buying a house and we'd like a new construction home.

Our criteria is:
*180K or less
* in a good elementary school zone, it looks like Mesa and Zia get rated the best?
* do any of them have gas at all? What I've seen is all electric. I spend most of my days in the kitchen cooking and I need a gas stove. I've had electric and is not my cup of tea.

Any info on any of the homes out there? Are the builders living up to the warranties and such?

Were expected to get many of these.. haha well your husband was one of 5,000...

So I will give you websites.. since i'm not to familiar with that area's new "boom".

- Linn Homes - Clovis New Mexico New Home Builder - Homes for Sale
- New Homes in Clovis for Sale

Clovis New Mexico Realtor, Clovis New Mexico Real Estate, Clovis New Mexico Rentals, Clovis Cannon Air Force Base Real Estate, Clovis New Mexico Realtors

From what I hear they are building sooo fast. They cant even keep up with the demand.

Thanks for the links. We're actually one of the "crazy" ones and sort of chose to move there. My husband is a civilian contractor so we had choice in the matter. However the cheap homes are too hard to pass up.

So the 2 companies I'm seeing the most is Double I Construction and Linn Homes. I can't really find a website or anything on Double I except through the realtor website. Anyone have any experience with them? I like the look of their homes more but at the moment Linn homes seems more trustworthy just based on the fact that they put way more information out.

Default An Opinion About New Construction in Clovis

When we arrived in Clovis, we looked at both new construction and at homes that were around 20 years old. I surprised myself by preferring the slightly older homes--here are some of my reasons:

The neighborhoods were much more pleasant to look at with large trees to provide shade for hot afternoons--a really good thing in this climate

Landscaping around the houses was well established

The rooms in the homes were generally larger--when the newer homes had the same # of square feet they seemed more cut up, as though they were just cramming in a higher number of rooms

There seemed to be more features that we were looking for in the slightly older homes--sure, we didn't end up with granite countertops, but we got a beautiful fireplace, a formal living room, and an incredible kitchen/dining/family room combination where we do our living

We got everything we were looking for at a lower price per square foot and we didn't have to put more money into landscaping right away
