Thumbs up How is your garden doing...updates..

The cooler weather (night's) has put a slow down on our crops.
The corn is doing ok, the onions are lookin good, the carrots are slow to show themselves, as well as the beets. Beans are up, radish is coming along ok, the peas are getting to be about 6 inches up, and the wire. The cants and watermelon are well they need warmer nights. Pumpkins are hopefully getting ready to start showing some vines. Tomatoes and squash need warmer nights.
The problem critter that was getting the young tomatoes at the base and the peppers and the beans...seems to have been controlled. RATS and I mean rats..have trapped about 6 and a few mice..now no problem...

Water in the AM and in the late evening....lots of straw over the plants and seedlings seems to have helped along with some top soil and sand a light manure mixed in.

Still have tomatoes, squash, tobacco and cants in the outbuilding ready to set out next week.

Happy trails for Fence Lake...
low temp last night was 44 need to be at and above 50..

LOL!! Sounds like you have the pests under control!

I can see some varieties of tomato growing up there, but not watermelon and cantaloupe!! Those are definitely hot-weather crops, so I'd be interested to see what you get! Keep us posted.

My tomato bushes are loaded....but it's going to be awhile yet....I'm starving for a real tomato. The ones I got from the market the other day were so bland that I threw them in some soup to get rid of them!! Yuck!!!

One trick you guys can try is to grow tomatoes and other hot weather
lovers in tires...the tires retain heat and help keep the plant warm.

I have the other problem here in Missouri - it has been in the 90s daily.
My lettuce that is left in the garden is going to be toast. The other
crops - tomatoes, cucumbers, corn, peppers, beans, watermelon,
pumpkins, think that's it - well they're loving it.

My container garden is doing well. We're already enjoying the cherry tomatoes and the bigger ones are slowly ripening. I have some small cucumbers growing. The gourds have taken off like wildfire and the watermelon plants also look good.

I have a tomato plant in one of those topsy turvy things..not sure I am impressed with this container. You need to be able to hang it from something sturdy and my only option is a shepherd's hook. So far so good though.

My totatoes also: I have Early Girls, yellow pear, grape and romas. So far the Romas are barely coming into the picture but I have been picking grape tomatoes daily for the past week, the Early Girls are huge but not changing from green yet, I think in another week or so, I say the first few pears turning yellow today.

We are picking squash daily and the cukes are coming, but just babies. So far bean blossoms everywhere, no beans yet!!!

You are having similar weather to us and our biggest problem is the garden seems to be drying out today. I guess we will have to turn on some water tomorrow. Other than that, yep everything is just as happy as it can be.

I got mine out later than I should have....I had ripe tomatoes at this time last year, but probably won't have any this round for at least another 2-3 weeks!

I did all of my own transplants from seed....and next year, I'm going to start some very early smaller varieties in January to put out in March...and I should have my first crop in May sometime!

I have Celebrities, Bush Champion, Porter, Patio and Husky Cherry. The cherries should be ready sooner than the bigger ones.

I got a freebie packet of some variety called Jetsonic....those came up, and will be put in the space where the chiles wilted in July for tomatoes in September. Hopefully, I can keep something going until November, since I can move everything.

Yellow and Red pears are something else....they grow all OVER the place, and produce hundreds of tomatoes daily...LOL!! Great to toss into salads, and the dogs love them on their food!

Our first year in NM we moved into our home with a ready made garden, mostly tomatoes. We finally got tired of them mid Oct and pulled them all up. We took all that were decent and still green, wrapped them in newspaper and let them ripen. I guess we had them for another month plus I had made picante sause and canned a lot. The next year it was just as good.

Normally it is the cherries and grapes ones that we get hundreds of, but this year it looks like all of them...Wow, what fun, huh?

That is what I hope to do this year.....have several quarts of salsa...and I do the newspaper trick every year if I have enough green tomatoes.

I often end up making relish (cooked/canned) with them...or fresh raw green tomato salsa!

Yep, fun, LOL!! But I do love my homegrown tomatoes.

Cathy, do you grow zucinni (spelling) as well? If you do, I have an awesome recipe for relish...
