Santa Fe will become famous soon enoughSanta Fe will become famous soon enough
If drug use is a big concern, then there is a reliable statistic -- the drug overdose fatality rate by county. Problem is that I don't have a url for the data -- but if I were moving I'd find it.

Last time I remember seeing the data, Los Alamos was the lowest with a rate about 1/3 the state average.

This is not to day the Los Alamos is drug-free. There is definitely drug use in the high school and any kid that wants it can find it. But 1/3 the state average is still a lot better than most of the alternatives.

Housing prices are higher than many places, but they are currently low because of the cutbacks at the labs.

With one major employer, you should probably have the job lined up before you move there.

It has a great library. Much better than the one in Santa Fe, which is a much bigger town. Outdoor recreation is right there including skiing and hiking trails in addition to the facitilities that have been built.

Restaurants tend to shut down on weekends when everybody drives to Santa Fe or even Espanola.

And year after year the school system is the highest rated in New Mexico.
