The small, flying ants are swarming again this year and covering our roof and ground areas. Can they damage the house? These are not the bigger, carpenter ants I've seen in WA state.

We had those in Moriarty for a few years (once a year). The swarm only lasted a few days. Clean your furnace's combustion chamber before the winter (it will be full of dead ants).

Thanks for the tip. I've discovered that's what we had here. Had to be careful not to leave any lights on when the windows were open at night. We still see a few a day, but not like we did.

What furnace? Good tip for those who have them. Discovered that they are indeed a type of carpenter ant--NOT good to hear when you live in a log home!

lol... I wouldn't be too worried about them chewing-up your home.

Are you on a pellet/wood stove? So jealous!

Well, I didn't like seeing those fellas swarming all over the highest point of the roof but no way we could climb up there to spray. Logs are theoretically treated with boric acid to prevent insect damage but I would not count on it.

No wood stove--too much work. Have combo of propane freestanding units and electric wall units.
