I only did the post which touched this thing off because I watched a news clip about how the republican party more or less snubbed the invitation to attend.

I'd like to see the republican party re-invent itself and come up with some new ideas. The party is licking it's wounds, and I'm wondering when they're going to stop shooting themselves in the foot? It's as if they're doing it every other day. And, Americans are watching closely for their next move.

Explain different walks of life: a division in America, rich and poor, erosion of the middle class, and headed toward socialism.

Republicans have long been known to promote business, with tax breaks for big business, while the poor have been suffering, and the middle class dwindling away, and becoming poor. Democrats are for government control and regulation. I think we need something from middle of the road. Something less of the two extremes.

I do not know the demographics, republican/democrat, although enjoyep seems to be quite knowledgeable on the subject. I think New Mexico is probably one of the poorest states in our union. We do have many poor people in the state, and, we have depressed wages, or, many people just earning minimum wages.

I would have to say to the original op, that no matter where one might go in New Mexico, politics is not the usual discussion in the local cafe or cantina. We discuss the weather and other subjects of interest. About the only time people really become inflamed or passionate about politics is in these blogs and forums, and not necessarily in public. I recall this past election where many people I'd met were pretty tight-lipped about who they were going to vote for. It wasn't discussed openly in my neck of the woods.

Oh, we have many hispanics which hold public offices in this state, perhaps more than any other state, excepting maybe florida.
and my point was in regards to minorities that are elected officials or hold top posts in the Republican party, like J.C. Watts and the chairman of the party just to mention a couple. Yes, NM is one of the poorest states in the Union, so is Ar for that matter. This has little to do with being conservative or liberal.
Calif is one of the richest or was and yet they are one of the post liberal.

I never said it did, but, now that you've mentioned it, I respectfully disagree.
I think being "republican" or "democrat" might have something to do with being a minority and being poor. But, that's my opinion, and you can agree or disagree, it doesn't matter to me either way, at least I don't have to reside near you.

No, I am far from a bigot or racist, but from your comments I am not sure about you
The above was a quote you made in response to me on another thread. At least during this discussion, you didn't mention me being racist or otherwise. It is difficult carrying on a discussion with you because you elude to many things about another user, which I find very distasteful. Where is that ignore link located?

You need to understand, Taos exists only because of capitalism. We depend on the "evil rich" to buy our art, stay in our hotels, eat at our restaurants, purchase second homes. Without them, we would dry up and blow away. Class warfare only plays well when the money continues to pour in. In our situation, a sparsely populated county without enough votes to buy favors from either the state or the fed, people generally don't want to bite the hand that feeds them.

Default A little history on NM Politics

New Mexico became a state in 1912 (just ahead of Arizona).

Since then, with few exceptions, New Mexico has been ruled by one party, the democrat party.

Results:

Every election is tainted by election fraud.

Democrats win the state posts.

They steal money from everyone in the form of excessive taxation on everything they can think of.

They find ways to convert public funds to their own personal use, or to misuse their positions to extort money from any business wishing to do business with the state.

They are indicted and some go to prison. (But not nearly enough).

Not true?

Then how come these things didn't happen when the state had a few Republican governors along the way and the state administration (briefly) changed?

It is a matter of public record, look it up.

Man LongTimeBob...you're startin out with a bang. Seems to be kind of a touchy subject so far. I don't know how ya'll will take my opinion considering I do not yet live in NM. I might be one of those "evil rich" that ya'll have so commonly spoke of. Not sure how I would be classified. I work on an oil rig. I spend my money locally and will do the same when I move to NM in four months. I am not Republican nor am I Democrat. I am just an American that works very hard so that I can make a living and support my family. I don't need the government, no matter what party, running my life. I do not work for the government...they work for me. Honestly, most of them do not earn their keep. I just wonder what ever happened to our sense of self governing? What ever happened to our sense of pride? Why don't we talk of politics when we go out? Politics control our jobs, taxes, now our cars, etc. The list will go on if we don't talk about it. I am not going to tell you what is better. I just think that it is of the upmost importance to speak up for what you believe in. An honest debate is essential in any major decision. You need to know the truth...not just one side. You alone are responsible for your own decisions. You have the right and resources to educate, inform, and even organize yourselves without persecution. Use those rights. Be heard...YOU ARE NOT ALONE!

I'm grateful that New Mexico can't be definitively called either Democrat or Republican. Because, I have allowed myself to have a firm prejudice when it comes to what party a person supports. As soon as I can determine what a person's political leanings are, I know whether they can be trusted or not. And, whether or not to tune them out. Oh, I never let anyone know my political affiliation. They might do to me what I'd like to do to them. Not to mention losing an edge on them. The bumper sticker on the wall in front of me is helpful. It asks: "Have you ........ a ............... today?''. You fill in the expletive and the party.

Some people spend a great deal of time trying to convince others to agree with them about politics. The assumption being that others will come over to their view. The rest of their time they spend attacking those who don't clearly agree with them, like me. But, that is only possible because, when it comes to social and political issues, half the people in this country are dumber than a rock and want to be told what to think and who to vote for.

I don't agree with that statement. I would find it irresponsible in real life, but this is just cyber-space where people can generally say whatever they please.
