Overall, more liberal than not. The southern part is generally more conservative, but that's not saying a whole lot for NM.

on moral issues and family values the state is conservative, but they vote liberal almost solely..The poverty level is pretty high and many think they have a right to free and government everything..

I'm either a liberal conservative or a conservative liberal. I go back and forth on this all time. I am a registered independent in Arizona, but I would also like to vote in New Mexico as I own property there. I don't see why this should be a problem. Where I grew up (Chicago suburbs) people could vote multiple times per day in different districts and often corpses were escorted to the polls to vote and returned to the grave shortly thereafter. It is the American way!

Obama won New Mexico 57%-42%
the whole Eastern side of New Mexico is conservative and more like Texas and the bigger cities in NM are more liberal.
CNN - Election Center 2008 you can check any states stats and see which counties are red or blue

More left-leaning, but in a "traditional" way, if that makes sense. What I really dislike is the constant berating Republicans, bashing & blaming Republicans for everything (in the local paper especially). It's so juvenile to do this.
