why want to move to New Mexico
current= Battle Creek, Michigan
why move?= want to work within the indian health services system and am not thrilled with thought of midwest tornado alley area
what preferred NM city?= shiprock/farmington area (the four corners area, i think it would offer a rich and diverse area between NM, AZ, UT and CO
2nd and 3rd place states= covered within the previous answer but 4th preference would include the southeast states of U.S., i want warm am so tired of cold, cold and more cold....
i am a nurse, LPN for past 17 years and brand new RN. Ever since I went to school for LPN I have been interested in working on an Indian Reservation from stories told by one of my instructors. Yes I know that I am in for a culture shock and have done some research so that I have an idea of what I am asking for. I have a lot to give and feel that I am very open minded in regards to other peoples beliefs and try not to judge others. I am concerned that I am moving someplace where I dont know anyone and have no family nearby (they are all right here in same city of same state other than some aunts and cousins in florida). I am part potawattami indian but my grandmother was not active with her indian heritage and my mother had very little information on her background as well. I have a 2nd cousin that has attempted to do some tracing of this heritage but as of this date there is little information. I feel i have lost my own indian heritage due to my mothers and grandmothers and great grandmothers lack of interest in preserving this heritage for me. Even more than ever, I champion anyone that tries to hang on to their heritage.
I also know that i am in for huge climate shock and am prepared, at least mentally, for it.

1) Current: Ft.Lauderdale, Fl
2) Why: Congestion, Attitude, Expense
3) Where: Sacramento Mts.
4) 2nd/3rd: Arizona,Utah
5) Held Back By: Inability to sell properties in Ft. Lauderdale, Very limited job opportunities especially one w/access to health care.
6) Anything Else: NM is something of a state of mind, time spent there has been peaceful and sparks creativity, quirkiness is refreshing. Seems like the spot most likely for me to drop-out/get out of the rat race.

1) Current: Palm Beach, FL (Loxahatchee)
2) Why: population density, heat, rain, no seasons, no open spaces - I feel claustrophobic
3) Where: Hillsboro area (berrenda creek ranch) or silver city, maybe cloudcroft, finally if nothing else works out Pecos or something closer to Santa Fe
4) 2nd/3rd: Arizona
5) Held Back By: Need to become debt free, should be within a year's time
6) Anything Else: planning on buying some land, building a home myself since I don't want a mortgage anymore (tired of working for the bank...) and just living a modest life on a very limited income, maybe have a business from home...

1) Current City and State = Rural East Texas
2) Why do you want to leave = I love Texas in general, the whole "I am Texan" vibe is great, but I hate, hate, hate the weather. I want to start over somewhere knew, where I know I love the area and all that it includes.
3) Where In New Mexico and Why = I don't have a specific town, but I love northern New Mexico, including the enchanted circle.
4) 2nd and 3rd Place States = Montana, Wyoming
5) What’s currently holding you back from moving = I am not done with college, but will be by the end of next year and would LOVE some pointers.
6) Anything else you want to tell us that we don't know? = I want to work for the Bureau of Land Management or the Department of the Interior.

Hey, I'm with you!!
I'm in central FL.
All of your other points I would say,"Ditto."
Except- I would add the oppressive and relentless heat and humidity, flat landscape, bugs, hurricanes, excessive rain, crime, et al
I am held back because I am an over 50 well educated teacher that would probably be unable to obtain employment.
I would also concur with living in AZ or UT.
I DESIRE A DRY CLIMATE WITH MOUNTAINS!!!
Good luck leaving this swamp!!

1) Current City and State = Fort Myers, Florida
2) Why do you want to leave = For all the reasons that other Floridians have expressed and more.
Oh yeah, Florida sucks.
3) Where In New Mexico and Why = Timberon, Otero County. I'm through with racing the Rats.
4) 2nd and 3rd Place States = no other compares
5) What’s currently holding you back from moving = We need to hang in here for another two years to retire with Social Security and Pension. Our land is already purchased. I can hear the wind whistling through the trees, smell the pines, and see the azure night sky now.
6) Anything else you want to tell us that we don't know? = This is the first time in my life that I haven't just picked up and taken off the next morning. It's killing me.

1) Current City and State = central VA
2) Why do you want to leave = to be closer to family, and to be back in the sunny, dry desert, which is my native milieu
3) Where In New Mexico and Why = Albuquerque... because it is like Tucson used to be when I was growing up there... also, close to family in AZ, but not too close... has seasons, not as hot as S. AZ
4) 2nd and 3rd Place States = staying here in VA, or going back to AZ (hope that doesn't happen!)
5) What’s currently holding you back from moving = Stuck in the "velvet rut"--hard to get out, but it feels so good while we're here... Relatively mild seasons, nice greenery, walking distance to work, downtown, groceries, parks, pools, my kid's school. Have a job I love. Hard to imagine going back to western sprawl. But oh, how I miss the desert, the dry heat, the sunsets, the thunderstorms; my soul feels incomplete...
6) Anything else you want to tell us that we dont know? While greenery is nice, having grown up in the desert, all the trees around here make me feel claustrophobic. Does anyone else feel that way about trees??
