I support what you did, Hunter.
I would kill a rattlesnake to protect my pets.

I would have done exactly the same thing Hunter, no way I would put my pets or my kids at risk and there is no way I would attempt to catch and relocate a rattlesnake, contrary to others advice, even professional snake handlers tell you not to handle them if you are inexperienced. And there is no comparision between a snake and a hornet, unless of course you are allergic to the hornet.

We put up with . millions of flying ants, blackwidows, trantulas, other spiders, scorpions, mosquitos, etc.
The WDB can cause a lot of pain, suffering, and for some folks, like my wife would Kill her due to her lower immune system...
The roaches, snakes etc. will always survive long after mankind is gone..
But for me and my family...I will protect them..

And if I saw one and had a gun, you damn well better believe it I would do the same. Now call me a non PITA supporter if you must (of course I am) I kill black widows, mosquitos, scorpions and any such thing I see. If I could find a way I would kill every crigger that was born. My poor husband, no matter what he does is miserable all summer cause they eat him alive. Oh, I also kill ticks. I love my pets and the guy I live with. I will do what I can to keep the creature free.
If anyone has read my threads they know I love wildlife, but there are limits..

Hunter,
I support you 100%.
Granted, I do not like snakes, but I do not go out looking for them to kill. But you can bet your last dollar if a rattler invades my space, its a dead one. I have a 5 year old grandson who means more to me than anything else. He HAS to come first, and as long as I am alive, he will.

I have mixed feelings about it. I don't know whether it would have been practicable to hook the snake and take it somewhere else. It was probably best just to shoot it. However, it isn't like the snakes go out on people hunts. The snakes usually attack people as a defensive action when someone's foot comes down in the weeds next to them. But you certainly have a right to protect your property, whether they were there first or not (and at least in a general sense, they were).

Im glad you killed that snake, I dont know why people would not want you too, its just a damn snake, and I would skin it and eat it too if I were you.
I think its stupid trying to bag it and take a chance at getting bit, then go waste your time and gas and relocate it, tease it then kill it. I use to.

Yeah, it's great when Mudda Natecha and man can coexist without danger to
either, but if I found a poisonous snake heading for my chickens, that'd be it.
Finding one on a remote trail, I'd leave it alone and wish it well, but not in my yard.

Hey there HW. can't blame you one bit. Last year had a copperhead damn near up on my front porch. Had to be 3 foot long. My nephew cought it and put it in a trash can and when I told him to take it to the pond and release it. NO instead he cut its head off and threw it down the road. I was pissed at that for that was wrong. But again, if it creating a problem then rid of the problem.

The snakes probably think we're just 'damn people', and they wouldn't bother to skin us before they ate us if they had the chance.
