Default What is the real school situation in Las Vegas, NM?

Hello everyone! I've been lurking for a few months. I am currently living in Albuquerque, but have been offered a job in Las Vegas, NM, in the health profession. It's a good job offer. I've been visiting the town and it has some great property for sale at reasonable prices. It seems like a pretty town overall. Parts of it are rundown and seedy, but it looks like people are working on their houses in other areas.

My concern is the schools. I have heard about that terrible hazing incident in Las Vegas with the football team. From what I can gather together, it seems like the schools have serious problems. Anyone know anything about the Las Vegas schools?

I read this rant on a Las Vegas blog:

A Rant about the High Schools in Las Vegas, New Mexico | My Tiny Vegas: Las Vegas, NM, that is!

It really makes me nervous. I have a son who is going to enter the 9th grade this fall. If you live in Las Vegas or know people who do, would you recommend the east side or the west side high school? Or would you recommend I not take this job?

Thank you for any serious replies,
Lucky Eight
