The only thing that worries me very much about possibly moving to Timberon is that I may be a bit too old (63) to be so far from emergency medical care. I can't afford any $14,000 helicopter rides (that's how much they cost here in Ft Worth).

There is ins for the copter rides, many take it out. And there are many that are much older than you living there.

Radicat is on a distinguished road
catman, I hope you won't let that stop you. Look at the positives. First you are going to be so much happier that you will not be as likely to get sick. Second, one of the many friends you'll have could probably get you to a clinic faster. And lastly, there is a lot to say in defense of dying happy.

There are alot of people here past 63. They seem to be fairly healthy. I wouldn't let that stop me from living here.
There's healthcare down the mountain. I see your concern though. There have been people I've met here that can no longer be here full time because they have breathing problems and are on a machine but other than that, the older people here seem to be in fairly decent health.

Thanks for all the encouraging words, y'all. You're right, Radicat, one can't ask for much more than dying happy!

Default I worry more about no close Vet!

By the time we get to Timberon next spring - I will be at that same number -
OMG !

Medical care was never a major consideration for us .........
keep in mind many of the Timeron FD have EMT training - as does Pete. I alway tell him - that he can't be the one to be hurt or sick...as he is always the one everyone looks to in an emergency! Besides - leaving the crime, heat, smog, traffic, stress - did I say HEAT??? of our respective cities will add years to our lives

Bear will be 13 next May - so I worry that his vet who is 3 minutes from the house now will be 8 hours away we we leave Phx.................. any recommendations for a good vet would be appreciated..........

We use Dr. Wiley in Alamogordo. As you know, our dogs are young so the only thing we've had to do is take them down for shots.
He and the staff are personable and that helps alot.
