A friend of mine was bitten yesterday while working on his new house.
He is aware of snakes, but this one was soo camied(camoflaged( sp) that he didn't see it..
It was about 10 feet from his youg daugher and she didn't see it..
His hand is 3x'x its normal size and is going to the ER today...
He was unable to "neutrulize" the opposition...I will be out to help him.
This time of year, dry weather etc. they are very prevevelent..

I'm very sorry to hear about your friend's injury and wish him well.
No doubt you will soon be overwhelmed by offers to "rescue" that snake and
relocate it. Please do us a favor and let us know who actually shows up to
do the deed... I think it would be very illuminating.

I, too, am sorry to hear of your friends misfortune in being bitten by a rattlesnake.
One big question stands out though...he was bitten yesterday and waited until TODAY to go to an ER? I know more or less where you live, HW, and it's fairly remote, but your bud. could have been at an ER in an hour or two, don't you think? He's risking vastly increased damage to blood vessels, nerve damage, tissue damage, perhaps worse, by not getting medical attention. I have a hard time believing anyone bitten by a venomous snake would just stay home and wait it out while their hand swelled up and turned dark. That cut it and suck the venom out is just cowboy movie nonsense.
Sorry, but this is a very stupid way to deal with a snakebite or any similar health emergency. Kinda like thinking that searing pain in your chest and the ache in your arm will go away if you just lay down and rest for the night.

I hope he has a full recovery from the snake bite and his own foolish non-action.

Sorry to hear about your nieghbor HW. I sure hope he has insurance as it cost a fortune to recover from a snake bite. My brother killed a six footer on his place a couple of weeks ago. It was real close to were his daughters were playing. It's tanning right now.
They are easy to spot at night with a spotlight if you need to harvest a few.

No tecpat, one big question does not stick out. It is just your attempts to try and make someone look foolish.
Making a lot of assumptions and attempting to give medical advice. Thanks for the URL, that doesn't help a person after the fact.
And your final "Sorry, but this is a very stupid way to deal with a snakebite" is kind of sickening to me.
Why don't you knock it off already.

Why should he? He obviously gets some sort of kick out of it and it's been
tolerated for months by City Data's moderators...

im not suprised at all that his friend waited to see a doctor, most men dont get up and run to the hospital right away, men are stubborn and like to think they can deal with the pain or just think that it will heal on its own. I know plenty of guys like this. Its like asking for directions, most men wont do it even though it is so easy to. Since you are a guy(Im assuming) I would expect you to understand.
Im not sure what kind of world you live in, but I wonder if you've even been exposed to anything outside the house or anyone outside of the internet.

Will know more tomorrow.
