Well, it was worth a try. Curses! The place seems like a perfect fit for me except for the little matter of not being able to make a living. Maybe I can retire there eventually.

Try to come out in May--you will have to check for the dates--they have a 3 day free Blues festivial--there are a lot of local types/bands/talent--and some name bands?? in the area--plus they play in the clubs--and have some jam sessions--and such, maybe a good time to make a connection, or (show your stuff) on a open mike??

Hi Catman: Not alot of work for anything in Silver!!! This is the place for retirees only. Look at Tucson for possible employment opportunities. Its only 3.5 hrs from silver. A lot going on there... entertainment, restaurants, ect. Tucson weekly produces a print magazine that lists all the entertainment and happenenings for each week. Tucson Weekly : The Alternative to Bland Daily Journalism in the Sonoran Desert

dallas3740: Thanks for the comments. Tucson is too big and hot for my liking, but I'll look into it.

rockyinbaja: That blues festival sounds like fun. If there's an open bass amp, I'd be more than happy to jam! I'm more of a jazz/classic rock guy, but I like blues too.

My question is what about the Copper industry in Silver .....has it never picked back up? I've been reading about how Eastern Arizona is BOOMINIG and the towns of Safford, Morenci, Clifton etc...have severe housing shortages and what not because the Copper Mines out there are bustling do to the growth in the U.S. and China's economies and Copper prices reflecting the gowth.....

--just hearsay--but it is booming as far as I know. I think they re-opened the smelter in Hurly last yr.??
Silver is Silver, at the gateway to the Gila, people are friendly, not clannish like a lot of places--everybody has different needs, and wants.
It is getting some artsie, fartsi types coming in--coffee cafes and such--we have 37 acres 26 miles E. of town-(mimbres valley)-will be retiring there in 2mo. it is over some mt's from town--no light pollution, you can see every star--very quite, and great water. Be advised that Tucson wages are 'junk' unless one has a college education------Phoenix would be a better bet.

Been there; done that re: Tucson--------twice.

the smelter in hurly is closed. the stacks were torn down recently so its no more. you can view video footage of the stacks coming down on the home page of the silver city daily press. THE SILVER CITY DAILY PRESS

youre right it is hot here in Tucson and I have definaltely had enough! I will be glad when its time to bail! I do have a college education and your'e right wages are better if you have a degree. I would love to move to CO, but i keep reading on these forums that wages are low there and it does not keep up with the cost of living or house prices.
