Most dogs that are loose do not leave their home yard in Timberon. I have been to Song's house manytimes and have never seen their dog away from the house. And I have never seen a pack of dogs up there, nor heard of one.
And as for the flat land for a pen, there is lots, we had a horse corral on ours when we moved in. Song's property is flat also.
And you will find the right property one of these days.

Hey, Jane, how are things in the MW? It's beginning to cool off here nicely....my yard is a mess....they're putting in a sidewalk up the side front (no more pushing a mower through gravel to the back gate) and one across the patio side to get rid of all the cutouts. I'll be mowing one small perfect rectangle.

That sounds much better than what I imagined. It would be great to walk the trails up there, but not if I have to worry about other dogs all of the time. I will be going up at some point. There are at least 3-4 properties I want to see up there!

Midwest is hot and muggy, and busy with garden here. Grandbaby may arrive today, I have been put on alert to stay near the phone.
Michelle is a great realtor up there, so be sure to contact her. Realtor's outside of Timberon will list, but not always want to go and show the places.

I agree with Chilegal. But even then you see very few dogs. Where our place is you see very few people. LOL As far as dogs running loose, you have to remember there is only just over three hundred soles living full time on the mountain. So let say one in 5 per person has a dog(which would be way higher than then norm. for a town) that would leave sixty dogs for nine thousand acres. Catman, You are right cats running loose have a lot more to worry about than just dogs.

And it would just be my luck that a third of those would come running when I'm out walking, LOL!!! But I've had a few close calls and some unsettling experiences over 28 years with these dogs out on lead. It is ridiculous to expect them just to stand there and take it when another dog jumps them.

I just can't get over how perfect the summers are in that place, though, and how much fun everybody up there seems to have.....

Cathy, I met some people here today that have a house for sale. 4 br for 215,000 and that's negotiable plus they're leaving furniture. If you want more info on this, let me know. They need to sale and get out of state because of her health. Just thought I might mention that.
Most of the dogs I've seen in Timberon, including my own are homebodies. They do take off but they come back home in a short while. Mine are mostly inside too. Mine also like to chase deer which I don't like but a dog is a dog. One of the reasons I don't put them on a leash in Timberon is they go crazy when another dog or dogs follow us and we seem to be the Timberon dogwalkers and have several dogs walk with us all over. If we go into town, they are always on leashes. Most seem to be homebodies and head back home after the walk. The dogs check each other out but I've never seen a fight break out.
I have not seen any cats at all in Timberon. I'd let them out during the day but I wouldn't let dogs or cats out at night. I haven't seen any dangerous wildlife here yet but I'm sure they hide out pretty much until the nighttime.

One question I have for those living in Timberon is what happens in a medical emergency? Seems i have read that the trip to Alamogordo hospital would be one and a half hours. Does that mean it would be three hours to get to the hospital figuring the ambulance would have to come up from there. Or does one just have a friend to drive you there to cut the time. Just wondering for those who are not longer young and this type emergency has to be figured into the equation. Thanks for any info.

My Advice to Cathy if she wants cool weather to buy around Alamo towards the Mountains or La Laz or Tularosa if you want to go swimming a few times a week. Ive only been to Cloudcroft ones or Twice and lots of Steep Roads coming down to Alamo not Great in the winter when theres ice. i would think. And once again the Wild Animals and Forest Fires are something to consider. About 10 days ago a Lady in the center of N.M. got bit by a Rattlesnake. She Seems to be doing Good she showed me the Fang Marks and it left a Giant Blue Bruise all over her Ankle after the Swelling went down. pintada kid at webtv.net

There are emt's here, I think there's some kind of medical clinic in Cloudcroft and I'm assuming Alamogordo or Ruidoso has a hospital but it is an hour and a half to 2 hours to get to these cities.
In serious situations, you will be helicoptored out.
I'm only going by what I've seen and heard and hope I don't have to find any of this out.

We have our own EMS crew 5 First responders and 9 EMTs and an Ambulance, Plus you can always get Care Flight. There is also a 5000 foot paved airstrip. But it is still aways for hospital help.
